Maybe Carlyle has givenup this game when it was like 3-1 so double shift Kostka to avoid potential injuries for our other more useful dmen?

If I was Carylye I'd sit out Kotska, put in Gards (if he's playing up to snuff in practice) and have the following pairings.

Phaneuf-Gunnar
Gardiner-Franson
Fraser-Liles

That's a much more balanced d-lineup in terms of mobility and defensive stability.

I think this too.

He played too much when the game was within reach, though

Where did we find this guy? Damn he's such a liability out there, Gardiner can't possibly be any worse right?

With kostka the main problem I have with him is he doesn't bring anything into the leafs lineup. He has no set of skills that should warrant him playing in the Leafs lineup.

Those who are wishing for Komi... Komi's banged up and has been unimpressive for the most part in his marlies role. But Komi does have that toughness with blocking shots and hitting, which Costco is terrible at.

Wasn't O'Byrne and Liles partners for a few playoff games with the Avs? Logic would indicate that you try them again tonight with their experience, not a 27 year old journeyman AHLer who's never played in the playoffs before. Come on Randy, don't get crazy on us now.

He was awful at the end of the season too. He doesn't make smart plays he turns checkers into chess, no instinct, over thinks everything. What's worst of all, he brings NO physicality, as I said he'd get owned on the boards, so what exactly to lose with Gardiner instead? We need a guy who can open up the ice, draw a defender and move the zone. Kostka is a mirage, Carlyle's blind spot.

I'm not sure what Kostka has done to warrant the playing time.. Seriously.

Kostka must be the Bobby Orr of practices. That's all I can ****ing imagine for him to constantly get chances like this. It seems like Carlyle is adamant in turning him into another Francois Beauchemin obscure minor league find.

Except Beauch is a smart player and has uber competitiveness. Kostka makes dumb plays, poor attempts at blocking shot that just ends up screening your goalie, and not willing to engage the body hard. He'll probably sit next game... I hope.

If you were Carlyle, you'd give Kostka more time to work out his kinks.

Why? He's a 27year old Ahler that has no future with the leafs, and his contract is up this year. If I was carlyle, I'd sit him for the whole season and let whatever AHL team sign him in the offseason. To replace him, a valuable asset known as Jake Gardiner gets valuable NHL experience.

Oh yeah, if it were up to us we'd play Gardiner, but Carlyle wouldn't...

This should be a case on some mystery show or something. This is an unexplainable mystery.

Maybe Kostka will give Seguin a Ference-esk elbow to the head and get suspended for the rest of the playoffs... Win Win! or is it?

The reason why Carlyle doesn't play Jake is because he has personal high expectations that Jake hasn't met. Carlyle was a Norris winning defenseman so he probably feels that he can knock jake and his agent down a peg. Personally I think this year has been a complete mistake. Jake was incredible last year. I can't believe we'd let a talent like that sit in the press box for so many games. It's disgusting.

I dont think Komi will put in 110% for a coach who basically showed him the press box for doing nothing wrong on ice meanwhile both Costco and Holzer got extended opportunities meanwhile failing at every moment

IIRC, he got hurt after taking a puck off his foot.
