(HF Story) Prendergast PartII: Q&A on Scouting

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/article...readed&order=0

Here's another chapter from my conversations with Kevin Prendergast.

Can someone stick this until the next (HF Story) comes out?

Wow... I didn't know both Deslauriers and Brodziak aren't signed yet...

Hopefully the Oilers get them locked up soon.

Outstanding as always, Guy. I've been waiting a long time to read insightful stuff from the guys who make the decisions (this sort of material is readily available for baseball fans btw. I have Baseball America's back 15 years talking about the 1987 draft and such).

As a guy who relishes reading about this side of the game, my sincere thanks.

Great stuff. I see a lot of our questions there as well.

That Hemsky story was something else.

Awesome job, Guy!

Just wondering, how many parts are there? We're definitely the envy of Hfboards with so many great articles.

Guy mentioned earlier that he split the interview into three. Wether he's hiding more from us we don't know

Also Guy just a thought have u ever considered uploading the interview as an audio file somewhere on the internet?

If and when I get a digital recorder then maybe... as for now I'm using a woodpecker on a piece of granite like on the Flintstones.

I uses a minitape recorder, no idea how I would transfer that. Besides, there's a lot of editing that goes on, I don't include any "ums" or "ahs" when I write it out. You'd be surprised how many people will start a sentence but not finish it before they start another one.

There's the two Q&A parts that you have now read. The there are two story type articles that the interview had an impact on. The first of those I have submitted so should hit your computer in a day or two (hopefully if it's accepted by HF). It's an indepth look at how the WJC may or may not impact an NHL player over the long term of his career.

I like that one because there's input from lots of different players, not just Oilers, and also a little bit from K.P.

The 4th part, also a story, is nearly done. I was up until 5 AM New Year's eve/Morning working on it... sad that I have no life I know. It's the one that examines the differences between Oiler scouting today and in the 90's under Barry Fraser. It's nearly done but not quite. I might want to talk to K.P. again for some follow up questions first. It might be a week to ten days away.

I hope it's worth the wait.

GuyF

Thank you all for being very kind with your feedback. I'm glad you liked what you have been reading but as one poster pointed out, many of these questions came from you guys too so for yourself while you're patting me on the back!

Good job all!

I always read your articles but don't always post a thank you. This is a catch up. Your discussions with Prendergast are always the most enjoyable.

Keep feeding the hungry masses....

Great stuff guy!

I am in dial-up hell right now so I'm being very selective of what I read on the internet, I don't have the patience for this 41k or whatever it is. Your articles are the first thing I checked out here.

Just a thought

Guy,

If you are going to talk to Kevin P. again and if you don't have a lot to ask him in terms of interviewing I thought that it is just a thought to get updates on the other players that you did not ask about.

It is just a thought and I do not know your time constraints and the opportunity for such questions. Thanks for the updates so far. It has really given us some insight into some of the players where there is barely any information about.

1)How Colin McDonald is doing in his first year.

2) I am really interested in his views on Tomas Micka. Tomas is doing awesome points wise in Columbus but Oilerchick said he should not be in the ECHl that his skating is horrible. He is the youngest player on Columbus and tied for secnd in points.

3) Dwight Helminen - Has this year been a disappointment for him? Was last year just a fluke?

4) What are his thoughts on Fredrik Johansson and Kalle Ollson. Fredrik is the only Oiler in the WJC and Kalle seems to be having a disappointing year.

5) Is he suprised with Mike Bishai's year so far. What are his thoughts on him and Nate Dicasmirro and what their potential is.

6) What are his thoughts on Michale Henrich and if his time has come and gone. I know he will not say anything really negative but still.

7) What are his thoughts on Mathieu Roy, J.J. Hunter and Mike Morrison and what their potentials are.

8) Oh I almost forgot. What does he think of Jonas Almtorp. He is having a good year in the league below the SEL. He has said previously that he is a defensive forward but his stats are pretty good. \

9) Jake Brenk - We have heard how awesome his skating is. How good is it? Who would he compare it to? He is doing better offensively this year. What is his potential.

10) It would be great to hear a quick blurb on Patrick Murphy (there is barely no news on him ever), Sean MacAslan, and Troy Brodie.

11) What do they think of J.F. Plourde. I do not believe he is signed to an NHL contract but he is doing great and is the only player from Columbus going to the Allstar game.

11) What are his thoughts on Rumn Ndur. He is not under and NHL contract either.
