For those who have followed Ovie since his rookie season in 05-06, looking back on his career, how has OVie performed based on your expectations of him?

If he wasn't such a lazy Russian he would easily have 800 goals and 5 Stanley Cups by now.

Winning back-2-back Hart Trophies with three peating the Lindsay award. Art Ross and three Rockets. 6x NHL All-Star with 5x 1st Team before the age of 28.

How can that not be exceeding the expectations? Unless you were thinking he was bound to become all-time top-5 player I can't see someone expecting more from him.

Exceeded expectations. He was a high profile, but players can always bust. Ovi hit his ceiling in production. The scouts knew what they were talking about.

In 2010, that wouldn't have been such a strange thing to think. Three straight Lindsay trophies and only missed a third straight Hart because of his suspensions.

Any first overall is lucky to have 1 or 2 major awards in their careers, the fact the he has 9 major awards and a calder, there is only one correct answer to this poll.

Exceeded expectations. Not really any other answer that applies.

Exceeded, then disapointed, then surprised. Overall I agree with everyone saying ''exceeded expectations'', but you really have to look at it in hindsight.

Met expectations. Had he not struggled for a couple seasons I'd say he exceeded expectations. In any event good to see him back playing to his 100%.

Overall, he's exceeded them.

Initially I don't think anyone thought he would come in so strong and stay at that level. The 65 goals season was insane, noone else has done it in 15 years I believe. I had a feeling at the end of 2010 he was falling off and the next two seasons were rather disappointing. This year, he's back to form, I wasn't sure he could get there again, but he's looked amazing after the first dozen games and the odd couple of "off" games. This doesn't mean he's looked bad every night in those fifteen games, some he looked bad in and some he just didn't look amazing.

Sometimes he has exceeded, sometimes he hasn't met them. I picked the middle ground.

Then again, looking back on it, I guess he didn't meet my expectations because of the ridiculous standard he set for himself.

Well, at that point he was probably the best player since Lemieux so yeah. Some might have thought that he was on the way of becoming the one who breaks the "Big-4". But at the start of his NHL career he has done better than fine.

When you get 2 Harts, 1 Art Ross, and 3 Rocket Richards in your first 8 seasons, that's exceeding expectations. I mean, even Bobby Hull had "just" 0 Harts, 2 Art Ross, and 3 goal-scoring titles at the same point of his career.

Did not exceed. He was lazy for half his career.

Id really LOVE to see the results if he didnt just dominate the last half season.

Right because the last half of the season changes what he's done for 7 years

For as much talent as Ovie has, he's still exceeding expectations by putting up a 65 goal campaign and winning that much hardware. Unless you had very, very high expectations.
