I'd give the overall career to Alfredsson.

I'd say their peaks were equal. Sure, Alfredsson scored over 100 points, but Elias has finished higher on the leader boards in a lower scoring era.

Elias is also one of the best playoff performers of his era. But even then, Alfredsson was a huge success in the post season and the biggest reason why the Senators made it to the Cup Finals.

This honestly is a toss up. Elias and his career has been vastly underrated. I'd genuinely say this is a tie (and I've always been a fan of the Senators and Alfie).

May not be fair because it's a team game but two cups to none seals it for me.

Both should go in the Hall of Fame.

Elias, i always felt he was arguably the most underrated player out there. He's been a core piece, IMO easily the MVP of forwards, for one of the leagues best clubs over the past 15 years+. Elias has worse numbers but lost over half a season of his prime due to illness and played on a mosre defensive team with far less star support during the majority of his seasons. It's close but i feel Elias deserves more recognition that he's ever gotten.

I'd actually be suprised if Elias got in, his boxcars just aren't there. I hope it's not the case, but it's a very likely scenario IMO.

Elias is better now but its hard to tell who had the better career. Both have had great careers.

If I had to pick one at the beginning of their career to play for my team, Elias.

I'd agree with this. Elias now, over their careers it's pretty equal. - Some might give the edge to Elias cause of the Cups.

Both should go to the HHOF.

Voted Elias

You'd kind of need separate polls for "now" and "career wise". Elias is better now. Career wise is a tougher call IMHO.

While I don't disagree, the Sens durring Jaques Martin's tenure were very defensively oriented as well. Also, as far as star power goes, Niedermayer and Rafalski were 2 of the top offensive Dmen of out there. From 97-2000, Jersey was a top 10 scoring team though they haven't done better than middle of the league since.

As far as deserving more credit, I definitely agree on that front. Tremendous player.

I think Alfredsson was the better offensive catalyst so I would lean his way.

Both are great two-way forwards and it is close.

Two different questions, so I can't vote. Alfredsson for career, Elias now.

Alfreddson!

Sure, Elias won a cup but Alfie was one of the best two-way players in the league in his prime. Elias was not too shabby either, but its easier to win a cup with Brodeur in net.

Both fantastic players, but I give the edge to Alfie here.

Career: Alfredsson (close)
Now: Elias

So the poll options are stupid.

Not sure about which has been better on their prime. Probably Alfredsson but it is close. I would rather have the career of Elias due to the cups.

Alfredsson will get in to the Hall of Fame and Elias won't thus starting a great debate whether that was right or weong choise. BTW, I won't put either of them to the hall but Daniel will get in and Patrik will be left out.

Alfredsson was a dominant 2 way player scoring over a hundred points while being considered the best all-around player in the league.

His peak is greater than Elias that's where I went Alfredsson.

Voted Elias thinking it was only about their ability right now. After reading the OP I'm not sure what I should vote, they are two entirely different questions with different answers.

Yeah i understand that i more meant to convey over their whole careers New Jersey has been the mosre defensive club year in and year out. Elias only really established himself in 98-99 so he didn't benifit too much from those years. Also being a top 10 scoring team in those years i'd imagine meant less goals than being a top 10 scoring team post lockout has been. And Redden and Chara offered a fairly comparable situation for Alfredsson, although not quite on the same level. When i talked of star power i more meant Alfredssons best years were with arguably on the most loaded line in the league with Spezza and Heatley (not to mention Hossa and Havlat being around before that). Elias' best running mate in terms of chemistry that i can remember was a young Sykora (although he's certainly had some other good linemates too), i just don't think that's on the same level. Fair points though and if someone said Alfredsson>Elias i wouldn't bat an eye.
