Not every team is going to draw penalties the same. The Habs play a puck possession/speed game, so quite often the opposing team is chasing them (holding, hooking, reaching etc) which will draw more penalties.

Must be why we got more penalties than you this year.
The fact you didn't know Ottawa was a puck possession team(with no goon for most of the year) makes me question why you're on a hockey forum.

I realize this, but so does Ottawa. We get hooked, tripped, high stocked and get nothing. We've had a player get cut half a dozen times from a high stick that wasn't a follow through. That's a bunch of double minors missed. Every team has a few of them missed per year, but not as bad as Ottawa.

People who have not seen the games all year will tell you you're simply being biased. There's no point discussing it. They know better.

The Habs don't dislike certain refs, apparently. And if they do, they have a good reason. We do not.

A bit of both to be honest.

Could you post where you got that from? Montreal has been fortunate this year, but they've been had some pretty terrible pp minus pk time in the past decade.

I didn't see the GoT quote.

I hope it was "You know nothing, Jon Snow!"

Always good to use in a debate.

Sens had 157 PPs, good for 17th (aka as least in the league)
Sens had 167 PKs, good for 21th (aka as most in the league).

On mobile so it's hard, but I'll tell you where and you can do the math. Go to NHL.com...go to team stats. At the top there is a bunch of clickable words. Go under penalty killing. One of the stats is total pp time minus total pk time. Then add up all 30 teams for the last 10 years. It may take you half an hour. Or just look at each season individually which takes no time.

Why use time? Opportunities matter more. A team that is lights out on the PP and amazing on the PK will have scewed stats. A team that sucks on the PK (see Leafs of past 5 years) will have less PK time since they often get potted within the first 30 seconds.

Sens fan mentions a stat from "over the last decade"

Habs fan posts numbers from this season alone.

Thinks it proves a point.

Come on man. Neil is a goon like Prust is a goon. I'd say it has more to do with the insane number of rookies Ottawa had to play. It takes time to earn the respect of referees and to adjust to the speed of the NHL game without cheating a little. Although now that I checked that, it doesn't really seem to be the case.

I dunno, maybe relying on guys playing more minutes than they're used to played a role?

You missed something:

PP - PK time over the last decade.

A+ for effort though. I'll leave a cookie for you at the ticket booth at Bell Centre.

They watch, like, five games a year on Centre Ice! If that doesn't qualify them to be experts, what does?!

He mentioned the stat, whereas I posted it. He also used time, which is completely worthless.

I think he was referring to PP-PK time, and while sens are not last, they may be over a longer stretch.

This year Habs are 1st with a + 58:23 while Sens are 27th with -28:34

edit: we've been bottom 4 for 4 years straight now.
