I've been saying since like october that smith was massively overrated. Every time I watched WVU i couldn't see why people thought he would be much of an NFL qb, the fact wilson and RGIII were doing well really got the media hype machine going since he was also an athetlic qb. Like most times though, NFL teams get down to brass tacks and he didn't grade out nearly as high as the media would have us believe.

I had a vivid dream last night that it was the draft and Emery traded a player for Denver's 1st rounder. Then he took a DE that was way off the board, like 2nd/3rd round projected. Then it was him talking to the media and he said the DE we took was No. 1 on the Bears board and then he was trying to brace everyone for the announced player he traded, basically "you know, you have to give to get, remember that when you hear about who we gave up". Turned out it was Julius Peppers, everyone was like WTF and then the dream was over.

That's.....just awesome. Sums up a lot of Bears fans emotion about our last two drafts and future ones I'm sure as well.

Peppers won't bring back a 1st Rounder. No way

and so far it's way too early to tell about his draft picks. Many will eat crow when Long makes the Pro Bowl an Shea ends up with 10+ sacks. They could be right and they are nothing more than a wasted pick on rotational guys. There is a grey area and we don't know if it will turn our black or white

Just read that Long has the biggest hands, and least body fat of all offensive linemen in this draft.

@Gil_Brandt: Love Kyle Long pick by @ChicagoBears. Was told by several people @nflcolts (24) and @Packers (26) would have taken him had Bears not.

Yea Rotoworld continued that thought:

Quote:
NFL.com's Gil Brandt was told by "several people" the Colts at No. 24 and Packers at No. 26 planned to draft Bears first-round pick Kyle Long had he lasted beyond the 20th overall pick.

The Long pick has been characterized as a reach in some circles because Long was not widely projected as a first-rounder in internet mock drafts, which have ridiculously become the measuring stick for where players are "supposed" to go. We saw this same theme last year with Seattle's Bruce Irvin pick. Brandt's information suggests the Bears very much took Long where he deserved to go.
Now all that's left is for him to develop and live up to expectations.

#20 still seems to be a bit high, like Shea last year who was being eyed around the same spots as Long here.

Only time will tell

Weren't the Packers supposedly going to take Shea last year too? Too bad we didn't leave him for them.

I like the Long pick a lot. I think he is going to work out. Shea, jury is still out on that one, as much for his known concussion history as anything else. That was a risky pick on all fronts.

I still think we will switch to a 3-4 in 1 year and Shea will finally live up to his draft spot

Guy had the world by the balls and threw it all away to be a street thug. Looks like someone who will be dead or in prison pretty soon.

Multiple mental illnesses can do that to someone

Guy has been a trainwreck since before he was drafted, but what else is new, Lions draft a WR who turns out to be a headcase and a bust

He was suspended mutiple times at Boise State. He was then suspended by the Lions first for sucker punching Louis Delmas, then for getting in a fight with the WR coach after twice in a game purposefully lining up in the wrong position. They put him on IR and he stated tweeting about how he wanted the ball more and they need to cut him now he doesn't care about the $, he will be in the HOF. Hard to get into the football HOF from jail though.

I kind of feel bad for him at this point. Clearly needs to be in some kind of psych ward or something...definitely can't be mentally stable. He really ****ed his life up badly.

I think that is just an excuse

He made choice to be terrible teammate/employee and off field he seems to have belief he can do what he wants and get away with it

That isn't mental illness that is simply being a criminal

Brad Biggs specualting that Carimi could be cut by Bears over weekend

Then this happened

@ESPNChiBears: 2011 first rd pick OG Gabe Carimi a no-show at #Bears' first OTA; has been away from team since April 18, per sources.”

"Carimi has been training away from the team on his own in Arizona since end of three-day voluntary minicamp in April. #Bears

Rest of guys eligible attended ,, Carimi was only no show (Yes its voluntary but seeing how he is only guy not to show up that raises eyebrows)

Cutting him this year makes no sense. He needs 1 last chance and by cutting him, the Bears won't save Cap Space. We would end up with a higher Cap Space and not have the player on the roster.

If he cant play NFL OL ,, No reason to keep him on roster

Cutting Chris Williams last year made no sense when they did
