Yes, pretty much any defensemen not named Jones in this draft shouldn't be in the NHL next year.

If they do though I wouldn't expect much out of them.

Probably. One thing that none of the articles written about Pulock mentions that he was a recent convert to defense (he switched while playing at the Midget level), so he's only been playing defense for three years. He's still in the learning curve right now, so it would be in his best interest to keep him in junior for another year and then probably a year in the AHL would be the best route.

Jones is ready.
Ristolainen might be ready.
Nurse could potentially but probably not.
No other defenseman could or should make the jump.

With the emergence of Gus though, we really don't need any defenseman we take to go straight to the NHL anyway.

Also, the more I see of Pulock's videos the more I like him. He's certainly got some fluidity, but what's magical is the way he gets that point shot off. Look at his vs. Ristolainen's from that video. The difference is absolutely incredible. Pulock's creativity and movement on the point while finding ways to blast that laser...thing of beauty.

As it gets closer to draft day, I'm starting to like our lot in life. Forwards are going to go early unlike last year. This gives us a real shot at someone who can help us in 3 years.

I found his description of Pulock quite intriguing--and the verdict (2nd best after Jones) makes sense if you accepted both 1) he has the highest all around upside and 2) he's the safest projection of the options.

I'm still not convinced he's the best choice--but I think he's the defenseman that the team is more likely to take at 11, and I wouldn't be disappointed in the selection.
Speaking of projection, what would be his NHL comparison for player in his prime, Mike Green (big blast from the point, not overly physical, decent skater)? Really wouldn't mind a player like that.

Zadorov could make it first year.

Zadorov is really raw from the videos that I have seen of him. He should not be in the NHL next season. Needs to go back to Juniors and develop more.

So something like this.

Starting 13-14:

Timonen-Schenn
Coburn-Grossmann
Mez-Gus
Gervais

Starting 15-16:

Schenn-Pulock
Coburn-Ghost
Grossmann/Dane-Gus

Something like that? If we get Pulock, and Ghost & Gus get better, we're going to have 3 great PMD on the team.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him get at least his 5 game tryout at the nhl level. His shot alone is an asset that would allow him PP time right away in the nhl.

Plus, he's way better at skating than Foster .

It's back to 9 games next year. It was just 5 games this year due to the shortened season.

schenn and pulock are both right handed so it would probably be best if they were broken up a bit. That would be nice to see, having potentially 3 home grown PMDs in the next few years.

Yeah, it was really only when I typed out our defense corps in the Trade Forum that I realized that we actually don't have an opening unless one of our current defenseman is traded.

Timonen-Schenn
Meszaros-Coburn
Gustafsson-Grossmann
Gervais

Since Gustafasson can't be sent back to the AHL without clearing waivers, and given his recent performance, I think he's got to be penciled into the lineup.

Thinking way way too far ahead ... but a left handed d on the PP would work better with G setting up from the left boards. Just saying.

Pulock simply skates forward when someone challenges him on the puck. Then he shoots. Good stuff.

Should he skate backward and pass it instead?

I don't follow.

And if Stolarz stays in junior next year and the AHL after that, the 2015-16 season would be his debut. Not to mention Bobby Ryan hitting free agency in 2015.

I'm getting way too excited for this.

Josh Morrissey is starting to get some serious looks by the scouts. The reports are promising. IDK if the Flyers would be interested in him but he smacks of a Lou Lam selection for the Devils.

No it's not. It's optimistic on Gus and top 6 containing 2 immobile D isn't anything special.

Not to mention the only addition to the entire team is Bobby Ryan.

Grossmann's brain should be clam chowder well before then, if that makes you feel any better.
