this is my thinking. Zajac isnt panning out and a legit top C is something we could use. im not saying we seriously look into it, just interested to see Canes fans (and anyone else's) opinions on him

Tlusty isn't a legit top C. He's a great complimentary player.

Zajac will be fine. He isn't a scoring line center. IMO he'll be best in between Matteau and Zubrus or Clarkson. He's a good checking line center or the line you put up against the top line. We do need a top center but Lokti has looked pretty good with Kovy. We might end up drafting one this year.

He would be on the Devils lol. Zajac right now is a decent 2nd liner. unless his offensive production gets alot better next season I cant see him moving up, even though I really hope he does

Would you say Younger Zubrus?

-Coming off a career year that he may or may not ever come close to again
-Team that will be in our division next year
-Still relatively young and on a cheap contract

I'll pass.

Tlusty was 5th in the NHL in goals scored this year, and only costs $1.7 mil next year. He's worth far more to the organization than he could possibly fetch in a trade.

Rights to Henrique would be a good start.

I'd decline; the cost would be too much.

And to those of you suggesting he'd be a "legit top C" on the Devils, you're nuts. That'd be just as disastrous as forcing Clarkson into a top-6 scoring role.

if you think Tlusty would be a "#1 center" over Zajac.....yea.

yeah you are right, Jiri only had double the points this year. Zajac clearly did better. ive said it before, Zajac is going to have to get alot better, pretty quickly to step back onto that first line.

Canes biggest needs is a physical, stay-at-home D but I don't think NJ is a good trading partner. AV is not the guy and more importantly Tlusty plays exclusively as a wing though he was C at lower levels. He's not going to be a viable 1C or 2C so much of this is moot.

ah so he had double the points in a 48 game season, must mean he is better, you are right.

and points are the only thing that matters for hockey players, I forgot. thank you for reminding me.

plus tlusty isnt even a real center.

Tlusty is also 3 years younger (despite having been in the NHL for as long as he has) and just completed his first 20 goal season of his career. Zajac has netted 2 60 point seasons (Tlusty has never come close until this season) when he was around Tlusty's current age as well.

All I'm saying is that it's easy to pick and choose stats. Let's not act as if Tlusty would be a huge upgrade to Zajac based off of one half of a season. Zajac had a down and very streaky 48 games, just like the majority of the Devils team. I have faith he will be fine.

As for Tlusty, after the season he had, Carolina will want a lot. His value is at an all-time high for his career.

Apples and oranges guys.

Tlusty is not a center. Zajac is but let the debate rage on.

Tlusty is going to be pretty hard to acquire when you consider his performance against his $1.7M salary.
