Price was bad in the third but was solid (read: okay,so-so,etc) otherwise. Josh Gorges was the worst hab tonight. And his play on the tying goal was atrocious. I can't believe we gave up that lead despite 50 SHOTS!
What happened to Eller was disgusting. Complete blindside headshot. HNIC likes to think that just because Eller has the puck he can be hit, but they refuse to acknowledge the blindside element. If this isn't a multigame suspension i'll lose it.
Our PP looked good and I hope our puck movement and energy continues.
My biggest issue was the refs swallowing the whistles early on and letting the Sens get away with tons of interference and stickwork. Guys are draped on subban, DD, etc and never a holding or interference call. And yes, it is the playoffs, but you can't let that stuff go. Inexcusable.
Now that I've complained about the Refs and the Sens dirty play, I do want to stress that the habs did this to themselves. On the 3rd and 4th goal, they were completely asleep and just watching the Sens come into the zone and take the puck. As I said Gorges was the worst tonight. We had the lead despite the ******** but we gave it away. We did this to ourselves and we better have an answer tomorrow night (thanks CBC). There's no excuse (pardon the pun) for losing tomorrow, they simply need to will themselves the W. What an absolute joke.
Subban, Gallagher, Galchenyuk, Eller, Plekanec, Prust, Pacioretty were all great tonight btw. The rest ranged from solid to awful.
We dominated them like hell they had no business on the ice with the habs but Price crapped the bed again and allowed 3 goals on 6 shots and for christ sake it was not on the d tonight they played well but Price was horrible in the 3rd period.
No Eller will hurt as hell there goes our slim chances at a stanley cup if he doesn't return.
Seriously **** the hockey gods tonight, it looks like they wanted to mock us really hard. Those kind of loses are the worst kind and nobody sane could advocate the fact that the sens deserved the win.
It was highway robbery.
losing Eller's size at Center is a MASSIVE loss. Diaz and his stupid chicken-with-head-cut-off forced plays ALL night
Price let in the cheap tying goal when the Habs were up.
What you saw on the other end of the ice is what the Habs are paying Price 6.5 million.
I agree with the first part of your post, hockey is all about momentum and we had it and clearly lost it on that goal.
I laugh at the people who constantly bash D men on weak goals, josh Gorges blocks a ton of shots and can't be held responsible for every bad goal Price lets in.
Price gets one more game in my opinion and thats game 2, if he falters, then it's Budaj. If it were up to me it would be Price all the way even he sucks, leave him there, stop sheltering him and let him face it.
Step 1 Shut down Price for the year claiming an upper body injury
Step 2 Find all the hockey people who keep mentioning Price is a Vezina contender, and hope one is the GM of a bottom feeder
Step 3 Acquire high first rounder, don't use it on a goalie
Take a step back, breathe, look at the big picture boys. Price was good until the third where he let in the stinker, some bad bounces and we lose. We played an ok game I guess, wish we would have scored another on the 5-3 pp. Be positive guys!
don't make excuses.
he doesn't look comfortable, at all...
secondly, all those complaining about the 5-3, this comes down to who's out there. trying to use the points and no traffic, comes down to coaching. habs are MUCH better, and pretty badly out coached.
This series is far from over, but we need to get competent goaltending to have a chance. The same goes for any team in the NHL.
Overall I'm very pleased with the way this team played tonight. It's just really, really hard to overcome a brutal goal like the second one after dominating so much for the entire game. You can't win if it feels like any shot would make it to the back of your net.
Montreal is a rough market for players for a reason... we throw players under the bus left and right. Sometimes it is deserved, sometimes it is not.
But if I were a player I would rather play in Dallas (unless I was a goalie, in which case I want nothing to do with Dallas either; Dallas can be every bit as rough on goalies as Montreal) or in Phoenix than in Montreal.
I know you're trying to be sarcastic but I'm pretty sure half the fanbase including myself would be ok with trading some of those guys. DD has stunk since he signed his contract. Markov has one yr left on his contract and is a shadow of his former self. Gionta has heart but we need to get bigger. Diaz...well tonight was tough to watch.
No, I am not being sarcastic.
Trade Markov while he still has some value.
Trade Gionta while he still has some value and his brother is in New Jersey.
Trade DD to finally eliminate the stigma of being small.
Trade Diaz because what little he brings on offense is greatly diminished by his inept defense.
Trade Price for Miller. Neither player is endeared in their cities right now.
We played good tonight. You can say whatever you want, and we certainly had some things we need to fix, but the fact is that we almost beat a team with a (really) hot goalie. That's a REALLY hard thing to do in the playoffs. Carey Price had to match Anderson's intensity, or at least come close. The sens didn't have as many chances as the Habs, but they still managed to win 4-2. Our defense wasn't that terrible either.
