When you start a series on the road you need to steal one before going back to home ice. We need to get that one on Saturday and right the ship. We are MUCH better at home than on the road.

Also this clown ref needs to go. Never liked him since the Anisimov snipe show was shown in 24/7.

From the game, we did the typical sleepwalk thru the first 10 minutes then turned it back on. The first 10 minutes didn't cost us but we still didnt get the result we needed. The march to the penalty box did let the caps tie the game but it wasnt the turning point. No being able to score on the 5 on 3 was the turning point.
These guys need to put this game behind them and move onto stealing home ice advantage by tying this series on Saturday

My thoughts:

1. When the Rangers get in their groove their forecheck is ****ing relentless

2. Shooting on net is kind of conducive to scoring, weird right? (talking about the 5-on-3)

3. Lundqvist looks like a god one second and a scrub the next

4. Great physicality from both sides

5. Washington looks like the better possession team despite what the advanced stats have been telling us

Agreed with the rest of your post, but they didn't call those same types of penalties on the Rangers either.

Yeah, I did too. He's been a brutal let down this year. Torts has give him some chances, and he's blown. Doesn't look like a player that's NHL ready at all. Plays with no grit or responsibility, and doesn't provide the offense to back that up.

Don't get the McD hate...aside from the breakaway he played very good game.

Love the thread title.

Nash had several good shots and made some nice passes.

Girardi was good, Backstrom/Ovechkin barely made any noise tonight.

It doesn't really matter. The turning points in the game were the bad Asham penalty, the weak Lundqvist goal, and Hagelin ringing the bar. Maybe if one of those doesn't happen its a better game. But they did.

The irony to this game was that the better we played, the worse the score got. Have to go for the split, makes next game a crucial one as game 2 always is.

clowe and dorsett help because they arent completely useless and can push some of the garbage in the bottom 6 (newbury and pyatt) out of the lineup. staal helps the defense tremendously and he probably has one of the better shots on the blue line, hell of a lot better than girardi who gets constant pp time

Awaiting for overreaction

Thoughts on the game:

1. First was brutal yet we outscored them that period. Second and third were good but we got outscored. We carried the game most of the time after the first.

2. Four days off and it looks like we didn't even try to improve the powerplay? Still Girardi on the points, still Zucc randomly on the second unit, still no Kreider on the PP who has one of the better shots on the team.

3. Torts usage of Stepan/Brassard on faceoffs over Richards is a huge detriment to the powerplay. Since the start of last season Stepan is 45.2% on faceoffs, Brassard is 46.3%, and Richards is 51.4%. Since all three play on the PP anyway it makes no sense to use them over Richards on faceoffs - Richards can always drop back to the point after the faceoff anyway.

4. Awful officiating. Moore's goal was almost definitely in but obviously it couldn't really be seen on replay. Not really the refs fault but it brings up the more general point of "Why does the original call matter" when the goal should be "Get it right". If a goalie catches a puck in his glove, closes it so the puck is hidden, and then goes and stands entirely in the net is it no goal because you can't see the puck? It's effectively the same exact thing - the original call should have no bearing and you should be able to try to infer what most likely happened using the most information you have.

Call on Asham which started everything was brutal. Non-call on Stralman which led to the other goal was brutal. And I mentioned before also, in the interest of fairness, the call on Beagle was pretty bad as well.

5. Holtby played very well.

6. Lundqvist played very well - he made a bunch of huge saves. The second goal was not soft. Girardi/McDonagh just let a man through and have a breakaway. Can't blame him on that. Third goal was very soft but not like we scored a second anyway.

7. Hagelin was excellent but way too many wraparounds.

8. Callahan pretty much a no show.

Only one game and theres plenty of time and games left. No need to overreact and worry.

I refuse to say we're in trouble until we lose a home game. Washington always seems to play us well at MSG, so game 2 would be nice to win.

From the way it sounds, a couple of bounces the other way and it's a different game. I'd be lying if I said I didn't see this coming after playing crap teams for two weeks

Screw advanced stats, they matter none. Possession is NOTHING unless you do something with it.

Johansson made plenty of noise when Girardi gave him a written invitation to break in all alone.

It was inconclusive because the camera they installed couldn't rotate or turn and only saw the completely wrong side of the net. Couldn't even see the post Holtby was hugging.

Im not scared of the Caps. They came out hard but if that is their best then we'll be fine. Pick up the play next game and see if the Caps can step up their level. We controlled a lot of play that game, the score doesnt show it, but its true.

We had plenty of quality scoring chances tonight.
How dare he let in a goal on a breakaway when he actually had a piece of it and it snuck through his arm, and the 3rd goal right after he didn't even see it through a screen of 4 players!

How dare we also not even be able to score a real goal!

Not to mention all of our strong scoring chances.

TWO.

Hagelin on a breakaway, Hagelin's shot off the crossbar.

Can't see us winning the cup. Might squeak out this series but torts and our current talent pool are a bad mix. I don't see much chemistry outside of step and whoever he plays with.

I can think of better options for spending 6.6 mil in cap space other than beaver.
Powe / pyatt both need upgrading. Lindberg 3c next yr, bring in Horton and sign zuccs and clowe.

Kreider has had some bad games but i dont think tongiht was one of them. He was on the puck a lot. Sure he didnt score but he was shooting every chance he got. I mean Torts was playing him down the stretch so i guess he though he was ok

The one where Ovi had his semi breakaway? The Johanssen goal wasn't the only thing. Top 3 defensemen were all bad.

Nash couldn't do **** with the puck. I'm expecting him to be able to keep plays alive with his big frame; not get tossed around by either Erskine or ****ing Green! GREEN!!

Girardi is still inept at offense (Forget that smart icing?) and I saw him getting drilled on his ass.
