You can't apply scientific values to a subject like this. One goalie handled what was thrown at him better than the other.

Refereeing was not deciding factor of this game. The defense was far from the best and if Marc Staal is not 100% ready he will not play very big role in its improvement. Rangers inability to score goals prevented them from getting two points. They continue their struggle on the power play including the 5 on 3. I am very much positive that the coaching stuff has a lot to do with all of the above.

I think Hagelin was our most dangerous and best player tonight by far. I think that had he scored on th PK to make it 2-0 it's a totally different game and we probably have an excellent chance of winning it. Also, his crossbar when down 3-1 was unlucky and another turning point.
One more observation, since Hagelin was our best player tonight, why was he not given any top PP time when others were clearly struggling?

Holtby faced very few quality shots. The Chimera goal was Hanks fault. Girardi and Mcdonagh letting Johansson on the breakway was horrendous. The Rangers can surely hang with the Caps. The Ovechkin goal was a lucky oneoff the backboards. They killed penalties pretty well. they had a putrid second period. They lost. No need for goats after one game.

he stopped quite a few goalmouth scrambles. a breakaway by Hagelin, a 2 on 1 with Nash and i think Cally.

he made some good stops.

It's the same thing every year with this team against that team though. We somehow just implode and they bury us (With the exception of last year... but the Rangers aligned the stars for that)

Team absolutely has to start hitting the net, if only to create more scoring chances. Way too many shots were off target tonight. Also, despite the terrible call on Asham, they're not going to win by giving the Caps 4+ PP chances per night.

Stralman was god awful tonight, but aside from him, I don't think anyone had a terrible game. Liked Kreider's intensity and would have liked to see that 3rd line getting more time. 4th line looked good as well.

When you swing the momentum in your favor and fail to capitalize, it makes it very hard to win. Once the opponent takes it back, it's damn near impossible to stay positive.

This game very easily could have been ours early on if we cashed in on our chances.

I'm not as upset/dramatic over that loss as most people on this board are. I am furious we lost the game the way we did, but we easily could have had a few more goals. We're the away team, not supposed to win these games, so lets hope we can steal one on Saturday. All hope is not lost until we lose in our own barn!

Thought the Rangers played awful, outside of a few guys (namely Hagelin). That said, extremely winnable game and there was a couple of bounces that could have easily gone the other way and would have given them a 3-1 win.

Not much to take from it, but split the next game and back to square one.

Rangers have never won a series after they've gone down 2-0.

Oh no! Adversity! Collective breaths, my friends. Battles are won and lost yet wars rage on.

We'll get ours.

Doesn't mean much to me to be honest. It's a stat, and games are won on the ice. So if we go down 2-0 we may as well all stop watching eh.
