Also, excellent observation. A team that goes down 3-0 in a series, or even 2-0, has a greater likelihood of losing. My mind has been blown.

The point is there is always a chance as long as you're not eliminated. Outliers happen. Theyre outliers for a reason. Clearly it would not be ideal for the Rangers to put them selves in a 2-0 hole. Thats stating the obvious. It's not impossible. They came back from 3-1 down against the Sens last year. It's conceivable they'd be able to come back from a 2-0 down from the Caps this year.

Also, they came back from 2-0 back against the Pens a couple years back. Lost that series due to referee interference and bias that was under a lot of pressure to hand the Pens a cup to save that franchise.
The frequency at which those outliers happen make them exceptions not the norm.

Thanks for the analysis! The definition of an outlier IS to be an exception to the norm. No one is disputing that. But this is part of the fun of sports in general. Yeah, these things are rare, but they do happen and it's fun to believe that your team can be the one to pull it off.

If they win Game 2, the Game 1 stat means nothing.

Easier said than done with this team.

They haven't played game 2 yet... Why even go here until it's a reality?

Yes, at no point have I objected you on these statements.

But then you come out and say the Rangers have no chance of coming back in a 2-0 hole... scratch that, you said they had no chance of winning before the series even started..

Pick a stance man. Either a 2-0 team has a chance of coming back, including a hypothetical 2-0 Rangers team (no matter how small or large a chance they have at coming back), or they have 0 chance (according to your earlier posts). You can't keep going back and forth every time I find you contradicting yourself.

Since you responded predictably after the edit that addressed that comment, I'll just move it here: It's not delusion or "lying to yourself". Not a single Rangers fan would be surprised to see them lose the series after being down 2-0. It's still fun to root for it to happen.

Well you're clearly lying to yourself about being a Rangers fan. You're more of a critic/pessimist than fan.

Who was the guy who was doing them when we went on that streak? Someone get him on the line immediately.

Rangers are gonna lose this series. I said it before it even started. I'll gladly take a perma-ban bet with anybody on that.
Seriously? You could guarantee we were going to lose before the series started and you're even more confident now? Why are you wasting your time watching and even being here then? Don't you have something better to do?

When I'm confident Rangers are going to lose (eg. Down by 3 late) I stop watching because it's a waste of my time.

If it's a foregone conclusion, what do you gain by watching? What's the point?

My stance has been that they are going to lose this series. Has been from the start of it.

"Anything can happen", but more likely than not, the anything that happens is the norm, not the outlier. I'm not going back and forth on anything.

Meh. This place goes back to peaches and cream for the most part if we win the next game. This place has a very huge tendency to be bipolar

And even then, I sometimes watch anyway. The Caps scored 2 goals in 46 seconds tonight. There is no reason why the Rangers couldn't do the same at some point late in the 3rd. Would it be likely? No, not at all. But that's why we watch.

Honestly I just want this season over. It's been a massive **** up from day 1.

It's actually kind of freeing watching the game when you know they are gonna lose. Disappointment is gone. Low anxiety. It's kinda like watching another team's game.

Therein lies the rub with the Rangers. The likelyhood of them scoring another goal, let alone 2, is always low. So smart money goes on the loss.

The season could be over for you extremely easily if you're that upset about it. Stop watching.

It's unlikely for any team. Has nothing to do with the Rangers.

So, you wouldn't try anything where the odds were against you?

Not really. Teams like the Hawks and Penguins come back from being down all the time. I'd love to watch a team regularly where the game isn't over if the other team goes up 2 goals.

Edit: Add the caps to that as well

Over the course of a period or two, but that's not what I was talking about.

Give the Rangers 2 more periods tonight and they weren't going to score 1, let alone 2.

Then maybe you are better suited as a fan of one of those teams?

They had equal opportunities to the Caps tonight. They hit a crossbar, missed a breakaway, were inches away from roofing a goal, and scored another goal that was clearly disallowed due to inconclusive evidence. They had many more chances that i'm not including. Lucky bounces.

They could have had 5 on Holtby tonight.
