Carey Price

I don't watch many Canadiens games, but I was under the impression that Price was in the same untouchable tier as PK Subban. After reading some of the comments made by fans in the playoff section, it seems like the majority of fans are turning on him. Small, vocal minority or would most fans be willing to move him?

Well, this was predictable.

I can't imagine Montreal moving him. They've got nothing behind him. They'd have to take a clear down grade in net to make the deal. And, if he's being run out of town for not performing in the playoffs, why would he return the massive haul that the Habs would require to be able to let him go?

HUGE, HUGE, HUGE blockbuster trade would have to happen if they were to trade Price. However they have traded Roy so I guess it could actually happen lol.

Goalies go through little funks, especially younger ones, and eventually the goalie coach and player get it worked out. It's just unfortunate timing for the Habs that Price is in one right now. He'll get a lot of flak from the vocal Habs fans, especially if he continues to play like Game 1 in the playoffs, but end of the day he's still going to be the franchise goalie for the Habs, and he'll get it all sorted out. It's easier to fix somebody with the natural talent of Price than to have to start from scratch and find a new solution, so there's no way the Habs will trade him, no matter how much he struggles right now.

I'd rather want Price examined before I would even start calling anyone to shop Price around...

Price isn't being traded.

Thankfully our management isn't as stupid as our fans.

Agreed. I do not want anyone comparing a young goalie who loves this city and wants to stay here to a traitorous piece of garbage that quit on his team because he was getting shelled in a game. Roy brought Cups here, for which we need to be thankful. However, I wish he could have learned a lesson from Luongo (yes, via time travel) and put his ego at the door and simply played the game he was getting millions to play. Yes, Tremblay was an idiot who left him in to teach him a lesson. However, the reason Roy wanted out of the game was selfish. He was paid millions to play a game and stop a damn puck. Shut up, play the game, and collect your money.

So, please, I agree, do not put Price in the same category as Roy, I don't want another goalie to get consumed by ego and turn on his team. Price is not as good a goalie as Roy was, but he is a far better man than Roy will ever be.

QFT. Bergevin knows the values of his players and will not react to a bad stretch as if the world were ending. I wish Price had a different last name so we wouldn't have to go through this stupidity every time he has a bad few games.

To be fair, I don't think he'd go through that every time he went through a bad stretch if he wasn't anointed a top 5 goaltender, the next Olympic starter and other endless accolades. The media REALLY pumps up Price beyond anything he's deserved. Looking at his career - he's a middle of the pack starter. This season (and not just last few games), he's been near the bottom of starters on a very good team overall.

Price for Pavelec straight up!

Similar stats this year and the Habs will get a salary cap break.

Of course.

If management was as stupid as me, they would had traded Price before summer 2013, while Price value was at his peak. And replace him by a cheap goalie like Bishop, Bobrovsky, Vokoun, Fasth, Ellis. And use the saving to sign a 4 500 000$ -5 000 000$ forward/defenseman UFA. (well, unless we acquire a player with a big salary for Price.)

Thankfully, our management is not as stupid, they gave a 6 500 000$ x 6 years contract to Price.

see this January 2012 thread entitled : "Please, can we just trade Price before making the mistake to give him 7 m$ per year?" for an example of my stupidity - http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1082003

Awesome post. Would read again.
I'm sure Boston, who has a better goalie, is looking to give up Hamilton (much less ++) for a backup goalie.

The majority is still on his side and realize he's about to enter his prime and when he's on his game, he's one of the best in the game. He's going through a rough patch right now, maybe there's off-ice issues, who knows? He'll be fine. He's not going anywhere.

G Carey Price
D Alec Martinez

To Los Angeles
D Dustin Byfuglien

To Montreal
G Jonathan Bernier
F Alex Burmistrov
2013 1st Winnipeg

It's a win-win-win.

Winnipeg gives Byfuglien, Burmistrov, 2013 1st, 2013 2nd (Chi)

It's not the worst suggestion I've seen. Wouldn't take it from a Habs point of view. If we were to trade Price, I don't think that that would be a package we would look for. I like Burmistrov, Bernier's an okay piece, the picks aren't unbelievable. So the value is relatively close I suppose. Would be more interested in a big piece coming back instead of little ones. Still quality pieces though.

Montreal should not get rid of price, he's still young (yet doesn't give that feel) Has room for improvement, and who is montreal supposed to replace him with?

Do a goalie swap? Why?

These playoffs will make or break Price

Price has historically under performed in the few playoffs he has played in, but he is still very young for a goalie. I do believe however that unless he performs as expected this year that he will be dealt during the summer. There is an abundance of mid-pack NHL goalies available this year which the Habs can sign while they use one of their many draft picks to get a quality prospect goalie.

Price's playoff numbers are just simply awful, while the last two regular season stats are less than star-level (hmm, say mid-pack). This is just reality. I am still hoping that he will enjoy a breakout playoff this year, but if not, you gotta pull the trigger while you can still get a good return. He was great tonight. Hoping that this is a start of great things to come...this would be the ideal situation.
