Prust:
I really hope he rests till playoffs...we know he has a huge heart but he should rest his shoulder, imo, to be as close as possible to 100% for playoffs.

Obviously missing Emelin's mean bodychecking style and shot-blocking, but...our speed has just improved dramatically...probably one of the fastest D-corps in the NHL right now (obviously excludes Markov!):
Subban
Gorges
Markov
Diaz
Bouillon
Weber
----------- -----------
Drewiskie
Tinordi
Beaulieu
That is not even close to being one of the fastest D-corps in the league. Markov is slow and Gorges, Bouillon, Weber and Drewiske fall between slightly above average to slightly below average.

Diaz is the fastest of the group as Subban's speed is very overrated by most on this board.

Off the top off my head St.Louis (Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk, Bouwmeester, Leopold, Polak, Jackman) and the Rangers (McDonagh, Staal, Girardi, Stralman, Moore, Eminger) are much faster as a unit.

I am not sure why you think Weber is fast because he is an average skater at best. This team is much better off with Emelin in the lineup, especially in the playoffs where the war of attrition can be won with players of his ilk. Weber is simply a bad defenceman who is a liability in his own end and unproductive in the offensive zone.

I totally get the worrying with Emelin's absence, but we must stay positive.

Imagine...one of our top 3 dmen going down with serious injury right now? I'll need Prozac!

We have to hope Diaz and Weber's speed/offense will help us just as much as Emelin's bodychecking. And I'm also going to hope they play simple/smart defense. For sure...we'll be missing Emelin's physical aspect (really agree with you), but...we're so lucky Diaz is coming back and right on time...we just need to give him some games to adjust again to game play and hope for the best.
And we're lucky that Weber may actually take advantage of his huge chance to deliver what he can...killer speed, offense, PP skills, and most important of all...smart defense (this is my only concern with Weber...his defense... let's cross our fingers for him to be very confident since confidence imo will lift up his game).

You're right...playoffs will be tougher and more physical, so...we want/need Emelin. Management might address this during summer by trying to add another physical dman or wait for Tinordi (2014 playoffs) to be that more physical/mean Hal Gill. I want Tinordi to be physical but I don't want him to overdo it...right time, right play, when it's needed, etc, less prone to being injured (bodychecking can take a toll on the body as we know and create more chances for injury...Emelin). For next season I want Emelin to improve the defensive aspect of his game...we already like the physical and shot-blocking aspects of his game, but defensively...he can improve.

Let's hope for this (for playoffs):
Diaz+Weber > = Emelin

What Diaz and Weber can't or may not do as much as Emelin (huge hits)...they make make up (and do more than just that) with their offense and killer speed. We're speed devils with Diaz and Weber. And I'm hoping they play smart defense.

Good luck to Diaz and Weber for our playoffs.
We need them (or one of them to deliver in a big way or just be consistent/steady defensively and help the offense...).

Go Habs Go!!
Cheers!!

You never know...
Markov-Diaz
could end up being better than Markov-Emelin...I just hope Diaz has enough time to get back into the groove and get his awesome game back.
(many here were complaining and with reason about the awful/slow defense of Markov-Emelin...they were caught pinching so many times and their slow speed made it worse...imo).
Agreed, and enjoy your posts! Sorry if I get morose

Unfortunately, this thread now needs to be bumped. Updates on Eller would be appreciated. Welcome to the playoffs...

Probably out for the playoffs. You have to be careful with concussions.

Not just that. But facial fractures and dental fractures... I don't even think you want to play even with a full cage with that kind of injury. Probably will hurt to move his eyebrow's or smile or do anything.. Put in a mouth guard.

Larry is gone guy's.

this is the **** gryba movement. Punish Ottawa and take this series for Larry.

It's to be seen. And while it's likely it just depends on the severity of the concussion. Facial injuries will require a full shield but the playoffs are long. Obviously he'll be out at minimum a few weeks but if we go a few rounds he might be able to make a return.

Get well fast Eller.

Edit: He also says Lars got away rather lucky from the hit (!), so I take that as a good sign.

From what i heard, he lost some teeth, broke his nose and cut his face pretty bad.

other than that, i think he's fine. no concussion [thank god] and SHOULD be good to play tonight. but i wouldn't play him tonight and keep him for next game. we shall see i guess

All that means is that he isn't in critical condition. Which is great, but I don't think we should read into it from a hockey standpoint.

No major facial injury is a great sign. It really all depends on concussion symptoms if that's the case. If he has no long-term concussion symptoms with no major facial injuries it is conceivable that he can be back if the Habs make it to the second round.

Impossible that he has no concussion. Correct me if I'm wrong but losing consciousness = automatic concussion.

The way Eller was hit (his head was whipped back even if it wasn't 'the principle point of contact' and hit the ice hard) and the duration for which he lay on the ice motionless (and reportedly unconscious) suggests he had a bad concussion.

I would be surprised to see him back in these playoffs, sadly. Hope he returns to the player he became this season.

The concussion is by far the worst injury, guys play with lost teeth and broken noses all the time. Not fun but they still do. It will depend how bad the concussion is and how the symptoms are day by day.

I like ****** and all but if you think the mods here are bad...I find most of the ****** mods need to be moderated, personally.

Glad to see virtually no one agrees with having that pic there in the thread about it.

Personally, I don't want to see Eller back.

I want to see him fully recovered, even if he misses the PO.

He did not deserve that.

This is the playoffs, if he is ok to play he should. Other than a possible concussion the rest he can play with.

This is good news if there is no major facial injury. It means the concussion is the biggest factor in his recovery.

The "other than a possible concussion" thing is kind of key. Sometimes concussion symptoms don't start appearing until a day later.
