I'm not saying Zibanejad will be on the team. But I do believe if he is left off it will be a mistake.

I honestly cannot believe you are calling me a homer for saying Zibanejad is better than mediocre to good SEL players. Wow

You clearly have no idea how much Zibanejad has developed.

Lundqvist failed in the NHL. He simply isn't good enough to compete against players of that caliber. If Lundqvist is given significant ice time, you cannot expect to win against other powerhouse nations.

I mean Lundqvist has never even been a prominent player in the WC despite many years on the national team. Ridiculous to suggest him being at the Olympic Games.

Well okey, i end by saying it does'nt matter who makes the team as long as it's not Zibanejad and Silfverberg, if they dont get even better than now, and proven during a substantial number of games as well.
This is big ice though, and Lundqvist is in his prime. I dont know if he'll get picked, the team can just as well go with Sedin, Zetterberg, Bäckström and Steen as the centers, that obviously looks like the preferable depth chart right there, but i believe we need Zetterberg on the wing, and in that case we need a new fourth center.

Lundqvist isnt good enough, especially if he is going to play big min on the PK. His last season in the NHL he had a faceoff % of 38. So he cant take the defensive zone starts cause it will be an endless pressure in our zone cause he have to win the puck back.

Eriksson Zetterberg Franzen is the better option on to do the heavy lifting.

Hagelin Steen Stålberg can be a low min line that are capable in both zones and bring some speed.

Seems Marts got in touch with Lehner last night in Philly. Not saying Olympics or anything, but he might be on the radar.

Put Steen on the wing. He spends most his time on the wing in the NHL.

That opens up a centre spot. Zib is the only right handed the Swedes have.

I just don't see 13 forwards for Sweden that are better than Zibanejad. He can play any position too. Age and lack of experience is not a reason to leave a player off if he is performing well enough and if the ability is obviously there. Ask Canada if they regret not taking Crosby in 2006. Extreme example but the principle is the same.

Sedin
Sedin
Eriksson
Landeskog
Zetterberg
Backstrom
Steen

Are the locks.

Zibanejad is definitely in the mix with Franzen, Berglund, Silfverberg, Hagelin, Stalberg, Hornqvist, Alfredsson and Johansson. Probably one of the best players of the bunch

I hope we bring Lehner and Markstrom as backups. Lundqvist is the undisputed starter anyway, but those two have the biggest chance to be the starter in 2018 if NHL's there.

Good job!

Would like to see Alex Steen and Patrik Berglund among F and maybe Enström on D.

thoughts on Marcus Johansson? Could he play on a 4th line?

Definitely. I'd have him on the team ahead of guys like Kruger, Hornqvist and Silfverberg any day of the week.

I'm not sure Hörnqvist fits into my Sochi-team. There are so many others coming from out of the blue now, like Hagelin, Silfverberg, Zibanejad, then possibly Alfie wants to continue... We're gonna have a lot of really tough, but at the same time very luxurious decisions ahead of us... And by us I mean the coaching staff.

These are the players that I could see being on the team in some sort of mix
Forwards:
Sedin
Sedin
Zetterberg
Bäckström
Alfredsson
Zibanejad
Berglund
Steen
Franzen
Eriksson
Landeskog
Hagelin
Stålberg
Johansson
Lundqvist
Hörnqvist

Defensemen:
Karlsson
Ekman-Larsson
Larsson
Edler
Enström
Hedman
Gunnarsson
Brodin
Hjalmarsson

Goalies:
Lundqvist
Fasth
Markström
Lehner
Enroth

And this is probably how I would want it:

Sedin-Sedin-Eriksson
Zetterberg-Bäckström-Franzen
Steen-Berglund-Alfredsson
Landeskog-Lundqvist-Hagelin
Zibanejad

Karlsson-Hedman
OEL-Brodin
Enström-Kronwall
Edler

Lundqvist
Fasth
Lehner

PP1

Sedin-Sedin-Alfredsson
Karlsson-OEL

PP2

Zetterberg-Bäckström-Franzen
Enström-Kronwall

PK1

Steen-Lundqvist
OEL-Brodin

PK2

Landeskog-Lundqvist
Hedman-Edler

The first two lines are given IMO. Both have high offensive potential without being unreliable in their own end. Especially the second line has a great two-way game. Third line is a great two-way line as well with both offensive potential and defensive awareness . Fourth line really is a crash and bang line with great speed that can annoy anyone. I do believe there will be a SEL player on this team and then there's no doubt in my mind it should be Lundqvist. Zibanejad is my joker, if he continues to play like he has this year and improves as well he will probably take a spot from someone on the bottom 6 but if not he can still be a great utility player. As far as defensemen goes I think we have good depth and 1-2 D could be swapped out for a few others but this is how I went with it. Balanced pairings who can play at both ends. Goalies are iffy after Lundqvist since he should and probably will play all games.

You guys oughta have Lindbäck in the mix. A better goalie than Markström.

I dont think he is better than Markström.. but in reality it doesnt matter since neither will likely be on the roster anyway

I wouldn't be surprised if Mårts brings the other Kronwall to Sochi.

Kronwall, Lundqvist and Persson as the set captains. "We're building around this trio".
