With the talent at TSN and Sportsnet likely not going on anywhere he would be smart to join FS1 and work his way up. Who knows where he could be in 5 years as part of the Fox Sports family.
I agree. I look at Friedman and still see a lot of untapped potential in him. Whether that continues to be a flagship NHL analyst or if Fox has him diversify and has him become their answer to Bob Costas, it's a win/win.

Poaching some of the CBC people, the better question would be to ask why NBC isn't going there instead of Fox? I'd think Friedman would be better off at NBC given that they actually show hockey.

Interesting possibility.

Although Friedman already has some association with Sportsnet. Hes on Prime Time Sports every Friday for a couple hours, and hosts the show when McCown is away. They'd scoop him up pretty fast full time im sure if CBC loses the NHL rights.

In that respect he would be in contact with Marek (and both being CBC guys as well) so they do have a connection where Marek could get his info

Similar to Pierre Mcguire, why would he want to go to a network that doesn't have the national contract to show hockey games? Fox wouldn't have the Trade Deadline specials, the Draft specials, NHL playoffs, the World Juniors etc. etc.

If he could do Fox in addition to TSN, I could see it. I don't see 'poaching' however.

It seems to me the hockey guy at Fox would be pretty lonely. Big fish in a small pond.

I could see it being Pierre LeBrun, I don't know about his contract or anything like that, but considering he works for ESPN and they don't give a damn about hockey (Only 3-4 writers: Buccigross, Melrose, Burnside, and LeBrun) and compare how many writers or "insights" they have for NFL, NBA, and College Throwball.

Fox will probably have to overpay to get someone like Friedman, McKenzie, or LeBrun, but out of all of those LeBrun is the most likely to leave.

LeBrun was my thought as well.

I had the same thought.

Plus it seems like the guys working for Canadian networks are free to work for an American one too, so it doesn't make sense to say "poach" unless the eprson was employed by an American network.

Although Don Cherry being broadcast in the US would be gold

As well, Freidman was a basketball guy before he was a hockey guy.

$10 on Milbury. He's got a very, very "Fox" attitude, works for their most hated competitor and has a ton of US name recognition.

If Marek's rumor was referring to just O'toole and Onrait, his explanation is hilariously sensationalistic. Hardly guys that "everyone will know."

I guess some people like them. If I ran TSN, I'd pay FOX to take them away.

Onrait is 50/50 for me. Sometimes his commentary is weird and creepy. But sometimes it's absolutely hilarious. They had him doing a hit on local Edmonton radio that had me in stitches just last week.

I agree. I really think Marek was referring to someone else. It appears that Fox is spending a lot of money to launch FS1, so it wouldn't surprise me if they end up poaching people from several different places to beef up their staff.

I myself kind of lost interest in them a couple of years ago, but they are a very popular viewing by a number of Canadian sports fans. So having said that, what effect will this have on TSN sportscenter ratings? They do have other personalities that do well (I enjoy Kate and Natasha for their professionalism/enthusiasm mixture), so it's not like Sportscenter will implode, but I imagine there will be a decent hit in ratings.

I havent actually watched much proper Sportscentre for the last year. I haven't had cable for that time, and TSN doesn't stream the full broadcast.

I always liked them. Sports are a big joke, and I like anchors/presenters who understand that. I guess their humor wont fly with everyone, but I really like em. They were sort of my last reason to ever sit down and actually watch Sportscentre.

Considering Jay and Dan made TSN basically the only option for morning high lights, I would bet Fox is going to make them the highest paid sports anchours on the planet. They wouldn't have left TSN unless it was for a lot of money.
