Nolan Patrick, the nephew of Sabres assistant coach James Patrick, is expected to go high in the WHL Bantam Draft tomorrow.
He's ranked as the second or third best player on most lists, behind phenom Tyler Benson, but could fall because of NCAA concerns.
He reportedly does not want to play for Regina (#2) or Prince George (#3) and could end up falling to the only Manitoba team in the Wheat Kings (#4).

Here's a blurb on him:
Quote:
Scout’s take: “He has very high-end offensive skill for a big player and his skating is improving all the time,” says Neisz on Patrick. “He has the best pro potential of any player in this draft according to many in the scouting world.”
http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/jrh...060434322.html

I had a single viewing of him at the Western Bantam AAA's, so I can't really say much besides he was very good in that game.

Upon further research, yes.
He's a bit before my time so I didn't connect the two.

That'd add more fuel to the Wheat Kings connection though.

Hehe, no worries. Wheaties seem like a solid choice then.

Am I showing my age to remember when Steve was supposed to be an up-and-coming 2-way physical winger? Oh man... time to go cut my grey hair.

I'm guessing Shanatwit is going to take a look at the Reasoner knee on Jokinen, 5 and a game and under 2 minutes left.

Scary. Looked like he was out cold from the hit and smashed his face on the ice. Broken nose for sure.

2 games for Gryba.

How can anyone take the NHL seriously with these inconsistent suspensions?

Shanahan is an incompetent moron.

League discipline should be handled via panel of people who understand the concept of "precedent."

I know most people feel it was completely clean, but I thought maybe it should be one game, if anything. I still haven't been able to tell how much of Eller's head that Gryba caught on the initial contact (maybe none, but his head sure snaps sideways right away). It seems like a bunch of gray hair splitting to determine what was the initial or main point of contact, but Gryba did catch an unsuspecting player from the blind side, at speed. I think it was semi-reckless, and it was pure chance where he ultimately caught Eller...head vs shoulder/chest. It could've been better, could've been worse.

Principal point of contact. Gryba would have had to have his shoulder cocked and aimed at Eller's head for it to be that which isn't what happened.

Basically if you want to hit anyone at open ice anymore you better hope they don't bail out at the last second or have them lined up with 100% accuracy or you risk clipping their knees or head inadvertantly. Gryba essentially gets 2 games for not throwing a perfect looking body check.

It looked to me like his shoulder went into Eller's chest and it was the side of his helmet that made contact with Eller's face.

Eller had the puck on his stick, so the interference call was wrong, too.

Everyone agrees that hte interference call was terrible and incorrect. I do agree with you, it doesn't look like his shoulder really catches Eller's head, but some part of his body seems to graze it. More importantly, though, is that the primary contact occurred between Gryba's hip and Eller's midsection. The follow through resulted in his head being grazed but as far as I understand, that isn't violating the rules.

Considering he already received a game misconduct in a playoff game, that should have been sufficient for anyone thinking he should have gotten something for it. 2 games is very harsh.

Meanwhile, in St. Louis last night:

Dustin Brown with one of the most blatant "intent to injure" plays I've ever seen...no hearing.

If you can't suspend someone for THAT, how the hell can you suspend Gryba for two games on a borderline hit with no intent behind it?

**** the NHL, seriously

Wow, I didn't see that last night. ****** move by Dustin.

Gryba getting suspended is also moronic, it was a solid hit with an unfortunate outcome.

And Dustin Brown does this stuff a lot. Has he ever been suspended for it? Seems like he never gets in trouble.

In Brown's defense, he was trying so hard to elbow Schwartz in the head that he probably forgot he decided to go knee-to-knee.
