Anyone have an opinion on Wilkes-Barre/Scranton coach John Hynes? I have none but considering two of the previous three WBS coaches are NHL head coaches (Todd Richards, Dan Bylsma) and the other is an NHL assistant (Todd Reirden) I thought it might be worthwhile organization to look at. He also preceded Rolston with the National Team. Just throwing more names out trying to dilute this Renney boomlet Jame's desperately trying to start.

At this point, I want Tippett as my first choice, then someone who's never had a shot as an NHL coach before (Eakins, Roy, et al). Seeing what Tippett has done with young teams dealing with relocation hoopla and severe financial restraints...he's gotta be on Darcy and Pegula's radar

Perhaps I've missed it in this thread (or others), but is there anything in particular you don't like about Tippett (besides the boring hockey )?

I legitimately don't understand how you can have ten toes on the Renney bandwagon and not want Tippett.

Tippett is a fantastic coach. Dude has made a contender out of a team with half the resources the Sabres have despite their inability to develop elite offensive talent.

I find it highly ironic that after finally getting rid of Ruff, we have people clamoring for Tippett.

Aside from Turris, which was the result of Tippett wanting to re-start his development because of how badly the prior regime botched it, he's been pretty good at developing new guys (OEL, Boedker) and getting the most out of guys who were starting to establish themselves as NHLers (Hanzal, Yandle). Additionally, his teams are aggressive and possess the puck, he's churned out a plethora of successful depth players, and he's very good with when to deploy players.

Pretty much none of these things apply to Lindy Ruff.

A: he doesn't stay up. I think however he will go back to the Amerks if the Sabres bring in someone like Eakins.

B: this hinges on if we find a good HC for hire, but have him in Roch, and get the guys ready. But then we also need a guy that's a strengthener with the big club. Gets the most out of the youngsters and a healthy balance of lines.
I'd have to go with Eakins because he demands that players be in shape. Offseason conditioning would be taken more seriously. I'm sick of these slow starts where the Sabre run out of gas after 3 games and spend half the season playing themselves into shape.

I used to assume that professional players would automatically be responsible for their conditioning. This past offseason (exacerbated by the possibility of no hockey season at all) it became crystal clear what players / teams we in game shape and which were not. The Sabres clearly fall in the latter, with Myers as a prime example.

Why do people say Ruff has trouble developing players? There have been some very good players come through the Sabres system, a system that had very few elite prospects.

This 100%, if Pittsburgh is stupid enough to fire this guy we better be at the front of the line.

I would rather have a coach that won without superstars.

Would be a lot more if he had someone like Crosby or Malkin.

Coaches that only had success with top players scare me, in any sport. Dont get me wrong, It would be exciting to get Bylsma.

Tippett's not the GM. I'm sure he would prefer to have better offensive skill up front.

I guess you could argue that part of that is his fault, but I don't really see it.

Those Stars are the last team Tippett coached that wasn't hovering around the cap floor, and nothing about them was boring.
