I think we can all agree that the Stanley Cup is special.

I first saw it in 1970 when the Bruins won the Cup.

In 1996 when the All Star Game was in Boston, the Cup was at the Harvard hockey rink for a couple of hours and the keeper let me pick it up. It was much lighter than I expected.

1996 entry draft.
If the Blues ever win it, I will cry and probably crap myself when I see it at the parade down Market Street.

After Carolina won it when the cup was in Albany. I waited in line for a half hour to get my picture with it. Breathtaking.

1961 at Chicago Stadium.

I only got to go to one game that year. My older cousins had season tickets, and I got to go when one of them couldn't make it.

There really is two stanley cups, isn't there? One in the HOF and a spare that travels around.

Yeah, which is more cool to see? Does'nt the Hall have like the original cup stashed away too, like a third?

This threads pretty lame if we dont spice it up a bit with real true stories. Who cares if youve "seen it"? Ive seen UFO's but I aint got pictures. Still happened.... New Jersey Devils took the Stanley Cup (weighs 35lbs btw) into a bar, had the bartender rim the bowls edges with sea salt and made a giant Margarita, then several more.... Ed Olczyk took it to the Kentucky Derby and fed one of the runners out of it; guys have taken it fishing & used the bowl to hold live bait. Leafs early 60's one night got plastered, stopped the car they were riding in around in out in the country to take a leak, accidentally leaving the Stanley Cup on the side of a County Road in the middle of nowhere. Next day, went back & there it still was, dented & dinged, but still there.

1997 at the Hall of fame. I know it is the second cup but we got pictures with it and with the original bowl. Quite a thrill.

That explains a lot. j/k I got to hold it and try on a ring in 2010, because I have a friend.

Didya hear about Bobby Hull's (and others) 61 Stanley Cup Ring?... $71,000.00 on Classic Auctions. Now wears a fake.... I guess to go with the toupee' & still bitter feelings over the Hawks loss in 71 to Big Jean & le Habitant oui?

Hard to imagine I never saw it in person until the Hall of Fame in 1996.

I saw it two years ago in Calgary after the Sylvan Lake fire. My (then) company donated thousands of dollars to the rebuild effort for new hockey rinks/arena's. the NHL brought the cup as a "thanks" (I think). I met Lanny McDonald in the elevator of our building for the same reason. I knew it was him instantly but was too stoopified to say anything for a bit, until I eventually blurted out, "only one man can grow such a magnificent stache."

He simplied replied, "I am who you think I am."

He he graciously let me take my photo with him and I reached my floor. Great man that Lanny McDonald.

Before that I have a picture of me as a young'in in Edmonton sitting in the cup in 1984 IIRC.
