As good as the forward group is the d group is a pretty grisly sight.
I think they plan on adding a couple of D and one more F after the first round is done. I think it's a good plan. See how the team is looking for a few days on international ice, and then address those needs from a larger talent pool. Makes sense. One of Doughty or Pietrangelo will be available after the first round. Add one of them and the D instantly looks much more solid. And what if PK is free? Or Burns? Keith, Seabrook and Letang probably won't be, but there will still be some good Canadian D to choose from.
The forwards really do look fantastic. Good mix of elite skill and grit. With the right D, and if they can find a G to hold the fort, they could go far this year.
That forward group honestly would be good enough to win gold for Canada at Sochi if pressed into action IMO.
yeah you could make a legit argument for about 1/3 of those guys listed to be on the final team... with canada's defence, these guys could easily win the gold at the olympics... only maybe russia or sweden would have a better forward group
