ya... he wasn't great right when he came back from the surgery. but i thought he was pretty much back to 100% after maybe 5 or 6 games back.

i think he was just getting a bit unlucky near the end there and wasn't playing with kadri. i think he played with grabo for a bit there who was sucking... so he wasn't really given a full chance to return to form.

but he was playing so well at the start of the year and all his shots were going in near the start... so it's expected that he'll go on a cold streak to balance out the hot streak. luck seems to tend to work like that. if all your shots go in for a while... then they'll all miss at some point later to balance it out.

but especially in the last few games when he was playing with colborne, i thought he looked great!

i really think that lupul - kadri - frattin has the potential to be one of the best lines in the league.

kadri was already 18th in scoring this year and he got so little power play time (how much PP time did the guys ahead of him get??). lupul's goals and points per game this season is amazing (small sample size, but if he stays healthy, no reason to think that he can't come top 20 in points/goals next season playing with kadri). and frattin was going at an amazing pace at the start of the year. he was just derailed by the surgery and then not given a full chance to get back to where he was.

so we're here in the playoffs... our squad is healthy for the most part. i think if we have a top 6 of ....

JVR - Bozak - Kessel
lupul - kadri - frattin

... we have a real chance at going far in the playoffs.

apart from Pittsburgh and Chicago... is there any other team in the playoffs with a better top 6 than we have? maybe a couple other teams... but i think of the 16 teams in the playoffs... how many teams would you swap top 6 for if given the chance? probably not more than 5 teams...

so if we've got a strong top 6... if we have a solid checking line with mcclemment and an excellent penalty kill.... reimer's looking like the real deal.... our defence could use some work, but we've got a lot of the right pieces i think...

the only thing standing in our way right now is carlyle deciding to play kadri with komorov or something crazy like that.... or benching frattin in place of MacA..... putting grabo on the second line, playing two goons, komorov, grabo, macA, etc. i like komorov a lot and i want him playing... but we can't be playing 5 guys who basically can't really score this year and spreading them over 3 lines.

Just watching the Caps-Rags right now, both teams stand up at their blueline unlike us usually, and have forward support on every play.

guys, y are u harping on randy for maybe sitting liles out?

liles is one of my favorite players on the team, randy knows he played well, and am sure randy talked to liles about it, if he is scratched even
let randy handle it

Yup. Having two strong PMD on two different pairs would be extremely beneficial to our transition game. The PP would obviously be much more effective and the breakout would run more smoothly.

Randy played Mike Kostka 23 minutes the other night. That might be why people are questioning his decision making a bit.

Defense failing to move the puck out of the zone was only a fraction of the problem last game; our forwards bobbled everything that came their way and constantly turned it over in the neutral zone and at our blue line.

The caps just started doing this in the latter part of the year, and it wasn't a coincidence that it corresponded with their run of wins. Odd that forward support is a rarity or at least not regular practice. Teams who don't do it should be ashamed of themselves.

I am sure randy addressed that
kadri even said "I played a terrible game, I'm not happy, I need to be better"

I expect a bounce back game today

I have high expectations for Kadri too, but if his wingers are Komarov and Hamilton I wouldn't be surprised if he's held pointless, plus its almost gauranteed he's playing less than 15 mins if thats the case.

I sure hopes he makes me eat my words but since they are being equal (to me anyways) I would play Colborne for three reasons: He's younger, have more upside, and more intangible as I said being drafted by Boston.

Yet it's the Habs that lose 3 players to injury in Game 1 of their series. Go figure.

love seeing gardiner in there but taking out Liles kinda defeats the whole purpose.

Which are what exactly? The only consistent line we've had all year is JVR - Bozak - Kessel.

Not if the purpose is goal prevention, and risk reduction.

Only a limited amount of room for small, soft, weak defensive PMD defenseman at any time, as that makes a team vulnerable, when stressing stronger defense.

"Play the kids" so I'm thrilled Gardiner is getting his chance at the expense of Liles. Gardiner playing improves both the present and the future. Hope Jake has a strong game keeping him in the line-up from here on forward.
