They got their nervs out in Game 1, they definitely looked nervous and inexperienced, time to get their **** together now and play a good solid game. Great we're in the playoffs..get over it and start playing like we did before.

Really good to see phanuef talking to kadri and giving him advice to be prepared and how to be better. Shows the type of leadership he has. He's preparing his young guns and developing a gold relationship with the team. Def a guy they can look upto for leadership.

Also, claude julien's voice sounds almost the exact same as reimer's

Carlyle didn't chose to play him that much, however once out there, the Bruins dictated how long he was forced to stay on the ice by pressuring the Leafs, and preventing changes from occurring.

As much as I like Carlyle, one thing I haven't understood all season is him scapegoating Liles. What has Liles done to deserve to be scratched? Did he run over Randy's dog? He's been one of our most consistent d-men this season and has been just fine defensively. He's one of the only players on this team that has any form of playoff experience, and is the only real veteran on the team too. I just don't get it. I sincerely hope him being scratched isn't true, I mean Frattin was supposed to be in for game one and then we found out at the last minute that McLaren was going to be in instead...

Why the hell is Hamilton going in, has he even played 5 games with the big club this season?

These should be the lines, no reason to not go with what has worked for us in the past.

JVR - Bozak - Kessel (Played with each other all season, why change it now?)
Lupul - Kadri - Frattin (Kadri/Lupul, Kadri/Frattin have chemistry. This line could be lethal.)
Kulemin - Grabo - MacA (Was our best line 2 seasons ago.)
Orr - McClement - Komarov (An energy line that wont give up goals)

Gunnar - Phaneuf (Again, played together all season.)
Liles - OByrne (Played together in Colorado for a bit, if Gardiner plays then put Gards with OBryne)
Franson - Fraser (They have been solid for us all season, no need to blow it up after 1 bad game.)

Reimer

Not really If Carlyle understands that Gardiner plays better when he plays more... Gardiner the way he skates can play 30 minutes at ease and if it's deemed that puck movement is the answer I kind of agree with sitting Lilies if he plays Gardiner extended minutes. This will allow Carlyle to now use O'Byrne as a PK specialist so Franson is protected a little from being in the position to block shots with that bruised foot.

NOW is the time to "FREE JAKE GARDINER" by playing the $hit out of him.

I'll go on to say if Reimer doesn't allow those goals that squeak through him like a leaky faucet at times and Gardiner plays 25 minutes or more the Leafs will win this game tonight.

In large part do to Gardiner being used the right way by giving him the green light to control the game from the back end. This is what Carlyle has taken away from Gardiner that has pissed me off... It's like Ottawa telling Karlsson to not play his game and force him to play a dumb down version of safety hockey. STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!

"Play the kids" so I'm thrilled Gardiner is getting his chance at the expense of Liles. Gardiner playing improves both the present and the future. Hope Jake has a strong game keeping him in the line-up from here on forward.
I disagree. The purpose should be to decrease the time spent in our own zone, and increase the amount of time spent in theirs.

having players that can get to the puck first and move it out of the zone quickly are how you avoid having too much pressure in your own zone.

There is only a limited amount of room for big, slow, galoots who can't get to the puck first and can't move it out of the zone efficiently. Having too many of these guys traps you in your own zone the whole game, and kills your team's defense and offense.

The one game we beat the Bruins this year we had both Gardiner and Liles in.

I feel like the boys will pull out a win tonight. As we know they didn't play to their capabilities on Wednesday, playing Jake over ROB is the smartest decision IMO. He creates plays because of his speed and as good as the B's are they are not the fastest team in the league. Kadri's comments this morning are also very encouraging, I expect a big game from him.

Carlyle likes his big, slow dmen. I agree with you. Liles and Gardiner should both be in. I don't see why why need 3 slow dmen in franson, fraser, obyrne all in one game. No more than 2 of them should be in a game at a time. We could really use a speedy top 4 dman with size though. Liles and Gardiner get the short end of the stick with carlyle because of their size and there limited hitting ability.

I'd go with:

Van Riemsdyk - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Kulemin
MacArthur - Grabovski - Frattin
Komarov - McClemment - Hamilton (Physical enough)

Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Liles - O'Byrne
Gardiner - Franson
I would switch Lupul with JVR and Kadri with Grabo. Other than that looks solid.

Grabs will be the difference maker tonight, he looked fired up last game

"Defense wins Championship".

Those defensemen you describe, unlike Carlyle who prefers big, physical, hard hitting, shot blocking types to decrease the goals & quality shots against, and most importantly used when killing penalties.

If you have been watching the other playoff series you would see how valuable the Marc Methot and Barret Jackman type defenseman have been.

First and foremost they have to avoid handling the puck like a grenade tonight. Never seen them play so bad with so many turnovers in game 1.

First off, defense doesn't win championships any more than offense does.

Secondly, being big and tough does not make your team better defensively than being fast and skilled.

If you have been watching the other playoff series you'd be seeing how valuable the Karlsson, Gonchar, Markov, Subban, Letang, Streit, Visnovsky, Green, Pietrangelo, Bouwmeester, Shattenkirk type defensemen have been.

I understand what your saying but I think its better to have a variety of d-men than 6 big physical slow guys, a Karlsson/Subban/Doughty/Green/Pietrangelo/Gardiner can really up the tempo of a game and chip in offensively when given the opportunity.

Nothing is for sure, but it sounds like Hamilton, Frattin, Gardiner, and O'Byrne are in for MacArthur, McLaren, Liles, and Kostka.

Which would lead me to guess at lines looking something like this:

JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Kulemin
Komarov - Grabo - Frattin
Hamilton - McClement - Orr

Gunnar - Phaneuf
Fraser - Franson
Gardiner - O'Byrne

but those forward lines could look much different.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Bingo. My thoughts exactly on how the lines should be. Now if only Randy wasn't so caught up polishing his Stanley Cup Ring that he would have time to check on HF Boards for advice
