Yes please, he and Eakins are the two I'd want to take over.

So a minor league coach can never be promoted to coach adults?

Where do all these professional coaches come from?

I see absolutely no reason to think that Roy is qualified for the job. Coaching junior is several levels below coaching the NHL. There is a reason most NHL head coaches come from the AHL or from being assistants in the NHL. Things that work on a low level does not necessarily work on a much higher level. There are easily 50 coaches or so that I would rather have if I was an Avs fan. Best coaches in the AHL + best assistants in the NHL + currently jobless former NHL coaches.

This is all about nostalgia and cronyism.

They show that they can perform as assistants or in the AHL before they are ready for the best league in the world. You don't go to university without first passing through high school.

No, I'm saying that having assistant/AHL experience doesn't make them any more qualified to coach in the NHL then a minor league coach.
There are lots of good coaches that have come from the minors and lots of bad ones that where assistants as well.

And yet NHL teams almost always choose someone with that background. Do you really think Roy would even be mentioned if he had just his merits from junior and not his playing career?

Looks pretty similar to Hunter situation.

I think Hunter is a significantly better coach though imo.

The most common previous job for NHL head coaches is AHL head coach or NHL assistant coach but there are some examples where coaches go from junior to NHL (Sutter, DeBoer, Hunter, Vigneault).

With owning a very successful junior team I think it would be hard, even impossible, to get Roy to go to AHL to earn his stripes.

If I were an Avs fan, I would be much more entertained by Roy's up-temp style than Sacco's Dump and Don't Chase system.

Let's put it this way: Roy is the only member of the Avs old boy network that is a remotely qualified candidate, he has some undeniable feathers in his cap in the juniors and is no one's yesman.

Lol this is seriously a concern of mine.

Sakic and Roy are practically legends here. Even if they don't do a very good job I think management/ownership will have a hard time firing them.

Yeah, that will be a problem. You better watch out so you don't end up like the Oilers.

Would love to see Roy coaching them for their sake. For the rest of the division, things just get harder.

If true Roy is a winner but is a hot head even in his mid 40'-s he brings a lot of emotion and work ethic. But will players listen and obey his commands?Other question does mean Quebec will not get a team or is there no relationship?

Check his numbers in juniors. Plus he has some interviews on youtube. He isn't really a hot-headed coach. He just demands a lot out of his players and they all seem to love him. Radulov stated that he'd "swim across the ocean to play for Patrick again."
