Trade:
S. Gagner / D. Bolland + B. Bickell (neg. rights)
A. Hemsky + 2nd + decent prospect / F. Tyutin
N. Schutlz / S. Salo

UFA:
S. Weiss
V. Stalberg
R. Torres
A. Khudobin

Retain:
B. Bickell
M. Fistric

Buyout:
Eager
Belanger

Line-Up:
Hall-Weiss-Yakupov
Bickell-Hopkins-Eberle
Paajarvi-Bolland-Stalberg
Torres-Horcoff-Brown
Petrell/Smyth

Tyutin-J.Schultz
Smid-Petry
Klefbom-Salo
Fistric/Potter

Dubnyk
Khudobin

Looks like a playoff team to me. Salo is older but still an effective player and would be a great mentor for Klefbom. Our bottom six HOPEFULLY, is grittier, more effective and just plain old better.

Obviously things can change, but I think management views him as a piece they'd like to keep going forward. Also, if Grabovski keeps his mediocre play going, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get amnestied which clears up 5.5million in cap space.

And yeah, it's all good fun You guys are the only ones discussing trade possibilities now, so I've been lurking on your board a bit in between Leafs game days
I would think Orr and McLaren are big parts of the Leafs' new image. One shift you have JVR, Kessel and Lupul, next shift Mclaren, MccClement and Orr. If you aren't going to sign them, I think we'd be interested in McLaren.

Can't just look at $19MM for next season with Dion, Kessel and others up that yer too. But whatever, can always have plan B and go after Zubrus for that slot.

I don't really see how Phaneuf and Kessel play a factor in us trading Kulemin. Kulemin is a UFA when their deals are up so we wouldn't be trading him to free up cap space, he would just walk. Unless of course, the Leafs **** the bed next year and Kulemin is traded at the deadline because we wouldn't need him down the stretch. Even then, I think he'd get more than a 2nd and cond. 3rd.

Edit: rereading your post, I think you mixed up this coming offseason and next offseason. We have 19 mill in capspace this coming offseason. Kessel and Phaneuf aren't UFAs until next offseason.

Let's say we sign some of our upcoming UFAs (Kadri, Bozak, Komarov, Gunnarsson, Franson, Fraser). Buyout Komisarek. We have about 1million in cap space for 2 roster spots, and who knows if Bozak will stay (which frees up cap space), and if Kadri gets as much as 4.5million for only half a season of good play. I (along with other Leafs fans) think the team would buyout Liles or Grabovski if they ran into cap problems.

And yeah, ideally I'd like to keep Orr and/or McLaren, but they don't really do anything too special IMO. They're obviously both very good fighters, but they don't kill penalties, they have little offensive ability, and I question whether they should even be in the lineup on a regular basis (especially in the playoffs). So, if they don't interfere with getting other, more important players signed, then I'd welcome them back with open arms.

I will try a realistic shot at this.

Trade ANH 2nd for negotiating rights to Bickell and Stalberg, sign them each for 2.5-3mil per.

Trade Hemsky to the Sens as was agreed to by both fan bases.

Sign Mark Streit for 2yr 11mil (5.5 per). I don't like the overpay, but it's the only way we get him on shorter term.

Are there any rules in the CBA that would prevent us from doing the following? Trade Horcoff and a third to NYR (sather might do us a favor) for a fourth. NYR amnesty him and we sign him for cheap.

I don't think so, but world Horcoff want to come back here? That's the real question.

Realistic Lines and trades

Draft Monahan #7
Draft Lazar #14

Trade Gagner and ANA 2nd and Gernat to CLB for 14th ovr and Tyutin and CLB 4th rd pick
Trade Harti and 2nd rd to Dal for Roussel and Dal 4th rd pick

Sign Hendricks & Bickell
Resign Fistric & Khabi to 1 year deals

Lines

Hall RNH Yak
PRV Monahan Ebs
Bickell Horcoff Hemsky
Roussel Hendricks Brown
Smyth Belanger (Pitlick / Lander...OKC callups)

Tyutin Schultz
Smid Petry
Schultz Potter
Fistric

Dubby
Khabi

revamped bottom six... gagner is dealt simply because of the return he can bring in over Hemsky... Keep Horcoff and Hemsky as they add veteran depth that can still compete... I would buy out Smyth and Belly if possible and leave the extra spots to Pitlick and Lander or resign Jones...

I'm really hoping Mac-T targets Centers i.e. Monahan and Lazar!

If Fistric walks, I'd sign Regehr.... J. Nolan would be my other choice over Roussel via trade for toughness...

Thoughts?

I don't usually make proposals, but the talk of trading for Peverley in the proposal/rumour thread has inspired me...here goes nothing:

TRADES:

To CBJ: Hemsky

*Jackets retain 25% of Umberger's salary/cap hit (1.15M)
**Oilers retain half of Belanger's cap hit.

RFA SIGNINGS:
Gagner - $4.75M
Paajarvi - $1.75M
Hartikainen - $0.85M

UFA SIGNINGS:
Boyd Gordon - $1.5M
Thomas Greiss - $0.85M
Michael Roszival - $2M

LINEUP:
Hall - Nugent-Hopkins - Eberle
Umberger - Gagner - Yakupov
Paajarvi - Horcoff - Peverley
Smyth - Gordon - Hartikainen
Brown, Lander

Smid - Petry
Schultz - Schultz
Klefbom - Roszival
Potter

Dubnyk
Greiss

AVAILABLE CAP SPACE: $2.69M

As would I. I don't think any of the moves are actually that unrealistic either TBH. Odds of all of them happening together are low, but I mean there's a good connection to some of the top FAs in there. Iggy is from Edm, Morrow is a Saskatchewan boy(seems like majority of Sask is Oil fans), Streit with the Swiss connection to Kreuger. Khubodin would probably see a decent opportunity here behind Dubnyk, way better than behind Rask. Lapierre...nothing really there but that would be a sick 4th line.

That's also assuming LEafs' are comfortable with Scriven's and Reimer.... which will depend on how well/poor they do in this playoff. Even if they do well, Nonis might decide he needs to upgrade.... Hiller? Luogno? Backstrom? Which blows your salary structure out of whack. Bozak may not resign which may frees some up. Its all a bunch of "what ifs". I didn't suggest it was the gospel. KAdri has only had one good year - do the Leafs go SAm Gagner with him and do 1 or 2 years to see if he's the real deal or do they Taylor Hall him and give him a long term, big money deal?? I dunno. Plus, $1MM isn't a whole bunch to sign 2 x 4th liner players. But even then you only have 20 players and teams carry 23 players on their roster.... so you need to add 3 more!! Min salary is $525,000, so you'd have 5 guys making $525K and be well over the cap.

Yes I knew the big problem wasn't this year, but the following season with Dion and Kessel and others...... And maybe Nonis figures, Kulemin isn't part of the plan in 2014-2015, so if someone makes him a reasonable offer, he might decide to bite.... get something for an future UFA while he can. Again what's ifs.... Zubrus is a good consolation prize.

- Draft Monahan. He gets 9 NHL games then back to the Ottawa 67s. Hopefully attends the WJC and plays in the OHL playoffs, with or without the 67s.
- Edmonton trades Ales Hemsky, Teemu Hartikainen, Toni Rajala, and EDM 2nd '13 to Columbus for Brandon Dubinsky and NYR/LAK 1st '13. Oilers use the pick to draft Lazar.
- Sign Bryan Bickell, Andrew Ference, Matt Hendricks, Anton Khudobin, & Mark Fistric.
- Jettison Belanger and Peckham.
- Trying to keep it somewhat realistic, but I'd buyout Horcoff. Wont happen, but I'd do it.

Hall - RNH - Eberle
Dubinsky - Gagner - Yakupov
Bickell - Horcoff - Paajarvi
Smyth - Hendricks - Brown

Smid - Petry
Ference - J. Schultz
N. Schultz - Potter/Fistric/Klefbom

Dubnyk
Khudobin

Still a work in progress, but Rome wasn't built in an offseason. Still missing a top pairing defenseman, but the important thing is the infusion of give-a-damn and players that will take the body.
