It's eerie how similar game 3 tonight is compared to game 3 against LA last year:

- Canucks had a poor game 1 in both series
- Canucks played better in game 2, but were not able to get the win. Couldn't get a bounce.
- Luongo started game 1 and 2, but Cory replaces him in game 3.
- Big, physical series.
- Canucks lost games 1 and 2 on the road, hit the road for game 3.
- Both game 3s occurred on Sunday.

Now, let's take a look how game 3 went down. CS gave the canucks a huge boost and they came out hard outshooting the Kings 2-1 despite significantly less PP time, but lost 1-0, took a bunch of penalties, Quick absolutely stood on his head, and the bounces all went against Vancouver. And remember, no Daniel Sedin in game 3 either.

Game 3 stats last year:

Shots:
Van = 41
LA = 20

PIMs:
Van = 21
LA = 13

Source: http://canucks.nhl.com/club/boxscore.htm?id=2011030153

Will be really interesting to see if Van comes out the same way under almost identical circumstances. Hopefully we learn from our mistakes: Don't give the refs any reason to call stupid penalties, do get a boost from CS coming back, do generate more offense and a ton of good looks, hope for a bounce, and hope Niemi doesn't steal the show.

I know that it is improbable

Since his 1st year with the Sharks, Niemi has been lauded by players as one of the best in the league in terms of quickness from post to post. Guarantee that factors in their decision to shoot more often than pass.

CS has also been our MVP this year despite Louongo getting quite a few of the easier stat padding games, and as Bmac said on TSN, though he may not be top 3 in Vezina consideration as Luongo played quite a few games, here's up there.

Schneider: .927 save %, 2.11 GAA
Niemi: .924 save %, 2.16 GAA

Luongo: .907 save %, 2.56 GAA

Took a quick look at some betting odds from Betfair (player v player betting):

You can throw down money for SJS to win the series @ 1.20

So according to those odds 1 out of 5 times the Canucks come back. Clearly improbable, but also not impossible. And that's with any margin calculated in as well.

That's quite a silly statement to make. 2 on 1 with a shot from a decent NHL forward should score. See how easy that works? It's not anywhere near as easy as you like to believe to 'stay in position' and 'make that save'. Even being in position in a standard 2-on-1 there is still plenty of open net for a shooter to go after.

Again, give credit where its due even if you want to cry about your own team.

It's kind of sad how Sharks fans stick up for our team more than some of our fans do.

The negativity is nauseating.

Uh huh.

Quickness or not anyone who can get a pass through is going to.

Niemi plays well and his defense helps. Canucks have played far too badly to overcome.

Niemi has played well. The Canucks have made him look better than he is though. That's not to say he's not a good goaltender, in fact he's a great goaltender. He's made several tough saves, not sure what serge is talking about.

The majority of the Canucks shots are weal floaters down low. The Sharks have done an exceptional job of forcing us to the outside. We have almost no pushback in the 1st or 2nd period, we wait till it's to late to start actually playing hard. There's almost always no room for a great shot, except for PP's.

Speaking of PP's. WTF Canucks, stop taking stupid penalties, some of it has been the terrible reffing, but at the end of the day we need to keep our emotions in check and stay disciplined.

Oh and Garrison on the 1st PP unit please.

The Canucks have bombed spectacularly in the playoffs in recent years. A lot of Vancouver fans just expect the worst at this point.

I know but, it's things like

"This team sucks, we're done, not even gonna watch the next games, gonna cheer for da Blackhawks, blow it up Gillis"

It just gets rather annoying, I think that a lot of people overate the Canucks going into the playoffs and end up disappointing themselves with expectations of a Cup.

Well you can enjoy being a cheerleader for a team that gets knocked out in the first round. I'm going to continue expecting more.
