I can guarantee you neither of those deals are accepted by the other team.

Would you trade arguably the top defensman in the league for a package that isn't even the same quality as what Jeff Carter got? (Voracek, Couturier). We'd be looking at something like that PLUS Eberle/Yakupov and maybe even more if we want Weber. Any team in the league would up our offer of Petry + 1st.

Hanzal while not as offensively productive as Gagner is a beast defensively, he is huge, physical and EXACTLY what the oilers need, I feel Edmonton would have to add despite the loss in offense. There's quite a few Gagner type centers in this league but very few Hanzals.

There might be very few Hanzal's but Phoenix doesn't even have a Gagner. They are a team that's starving for offence with good PMD's but no forwards that can finish.

I like it. We become a tougher grittier top six and the bottom six is defensively responsible. I like Monahan actually making the team he is a good defender and great on the dot with him on the fourth line hopefully that makes him become more physical as well. Wish we could get bigger but it's solid and somewhat realistic as well.

I don't see how that makes us a better team

That second line is made of three RWs. I don't know how well that would go.

Anyways, here's mine:

Hall - Gagner - Yakupov
Bickell - Nugent Hopkins - Eberle
Paajarvi - Horcoff - Peverley
Hartikainen - Smithson - Brown
Regin, Petrell

Streit - Morris
Smid - Petry
Nick - Justin
Potter

Dubnyk
Greiss/Khudobin

Trade some combination of Hemsky, Gernat, and 2nd round or later picks for Peverley and D. Morris and sign Bickell, Streit, Regin, and a backup.

True, maybe we throw in Klefbom for a shot at Weber!

Also you think we can fit Weber AND Streit? Doubt that cap-wise.

Klefbom also still manages to make it into your top six, and I don't like that. I think Edmonton is making a mistake hinting that he'll be there because I think he should go to OKC first for at least half a year.

I don't see Streit leaving a playoff team in an easier Eastern conference to play for one of the worst defences in the NHL. Go to any non-playoff board and they have Streit included in their defence. It's kind of funny.

Gardiner= puck mover who should work well with J.Schultz playing bottom pairing minutes
Boychuk = solid RHD ... local kid who plays physical ..

Not sure why this wont make us a better team.

With Paajarvi, Monahan and Jones in the mix, we should get ~ 40 Goals from our bottom 6.

few thoughts Ive had about the line up that I think could actaully happen.

Sign Bozak 3.5-5 a year for 4/5 years.
sign Bickell - 2.5-3 a year for 3 years
Sign Torres- 1.5 2 year deal
Sign streit 5 mill 3 years
trade gagner for gardner and a pick
Trade for brian boyle or resign smithson

Hall Nuge Yak
Bickell Bozak Eberle
Paajarvi Horc Torres
Smyth Boyle/Smithson Brown

Streit J.Shultz
Petry Smid
Gardner N Shultz
Fistric

Id like smyth to retire or get traded and also add Stalberg and move torres down to 4th line.
Alot of depth is added, bigger bodies and lots of versitility within the lineup.

He may. I almost never see NJ games, but I've never seen anything that suggested he can play C. If he can he becomes a huge target IMO.

If I had my own way buying out Smyth and Horcoff would be the first thing I would do...

-Let Smithson, Petrell, Khabby and Jones walk as FA
-Trade Ales Hemsky for Nick Foligno
-Sign Mark Streit and Scuderi to help out the defense core
-Re-sign Mark Fistric for some muscle on the back end
-Trade Nick Schultz for a pick
-Trade picks for Rich Peverley (Cap dump for Boston)
-Trade picks for Derek Morris (Or a similar player like him)
-Sign Viktor Stalberg, Bryan Bickell, Matt Hendricks and Raffi Torres for some grit and secondary scoring to fill out the bottom six
-Sign a backup goalie (Anton Khudobin, Ray Emery or Peter Budaj? Maybe even someone from Europe like Antti Raanta?)

Taylor Hall - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - Jordan Eberle
Nick Foligno - Sam Gagner - Nail Yakupov
Bryan Bickell - Rich Peverley - Viktor Stalberg
Raffi Torres - Matt Hendricks - Mike Brown
Teemu Hartikainen??? - Anton Lander???

Ladislav Smid - Jeff Petry
Mark Scuderi - Justin Schultz
Mark Streit - Derek Morris
Mark Fistric

Devan Dubnyk
Anton Khudobin

We have a defense by committee with a puck mover and defensive guy on each pairing.

Thats a ton of changes and likely over the cap but a man can dream

So we sign Streit at 6 million per year to play as a bottom pairing defenceman? Lets face it, this UFA crop for defence is extremely weak and their is only 1 Streit. I'm sure their are 20 teams he would rather play on before the Oilers. If we are going to improve our top 4, it's going to have to be through trade.
