A presumably healthy Gunnarsson playing like he is now could make Nonis' job a lot easier.

He's been our 2nd best defenseman for the entire season. I'm still laughing at the fact that people gave him a 2B when we were doing player rankings a few months ago because he had a string of a few bad games. Gunnarsson is an easy top 4 defenseman on every team.

He was very good last night. I was only able to semi-pay attention, since I was hanging out with 5 or 6 friends. But there were 3-4 times where I looked over, saw one of our defenders completely break up a dangerous play, and each time when wondering who it was... turned out to be Gunnarsson on all of them.

Gunner has been good while adjusting to the right side.

Where are the guys who claim he is a depth defenseman and can't wait to get rid of him?

I am looking at a certain Leafs season ticket holder.

Big fan of Carl Gunnarsson's. He plays much bigger than he is and blocks a tonne of shots. I bet he could play in Boston's top 4 no problem.

of course he could play in Boston's top-4. they've got boychuk and ference in their top-4.

heck, he'd give Seidenberg a run for their #2 spot. He's certainly looked better than Seidenberg this season.

Extremely reliable... Last night showed us what Gunnarsson's game is alla bout...

Steady as a pontoon on a calm sunny day... So much soundness to his game too... You won't see him make the highlight reel for a couple reasons 1. He doesn't do anything flashy at all 2. He's never the guy who gets burned by the other team's forwards

Funny, I was thinking about bumping Gunnarsson's appreciation thread.

Gunnarsson was GREAT yesterday, he made so many key defensive plays and timely plays at the right time to prevent scoring chances. I had say he has comfortably been our best defender in both game 1 and 2.

He was instrumental yesterday and if I had to pick an unsung hero for yesterday's game, it had be him, easily.

I had say that the re,arkable defensive play to stop that 2 on 1 was somewhat flashy.

No Rielly will either be on the 3rd pairing or in junior next year you can't be putting him on the top pairing for atleast a year or 2.

He's a top-4 on a lot or teams, but definitely not all. I'd say it's probably close to half.

Another thing people forget is how underrated he is offensively. He racks up secondary assists like a madman for a defensive D because of how good he is at holding the attacking blue line.

That's how it should be. We need to give Rielly sheltered minutes initially. There is no problem having three top 4 pairings.

Phaneuf - New guy
Gardiner- Gunnars
Fraser - Franson
Rielly - O'Byrne

He could be Franson's partner on the PP. Since our pairings are quite young, develop them and then trade if required.

Gunnarsson is excellent positionally. How many times is he the one back on an odd-man rush? Every time. How many times is he the one out of position allowing the odd-man rush to happen? Zero. He's pretty good under pressure on the point, too. I always thought Gunnarsson was one of our better defenseman overall with the potential to be the steadiest guy on the team in his own zone. The Leafs will have to make him a good offer because other teams will be looking to get him. He's only 26, not even in the prime years for most defensemen. He came into the NHL at 23, which is not particularly young, but only ever played a dozen games in the AHL before getting called up and never looked back. It takes a smart player to make the transition that easily, he looks like a veteran out there.

He took a pretty big hit to make a play Saturday. He looked a little shaken up but finished the game.

He's been solid for us. Not very noticeable, which is exactly what you want from him.

We need more defenseman like him. Solid 2-way defenseman.

And folks, we are talking about a defenseman who has played injured all season long.

I was highly critical of Gunnarsson towards the end of the regular season but I gotta admit he really stepped up on Saturday. Let's hope he can keep playing at that level for the remainder of the playoffs.
