The primary reason it wouldn't work is seeing him win those extra games as an above average goalie can that will mess with their plunge to the very depths of the standings. Again, getting a draft pick for Miller and selecting in the top 2-3 picks vs. keeping Miller and picking 6-8? It's the possible overall value at the draft that has me more interested in seeing him move.

(Watch Enroth turn into uber Ewok and steal games despite my lack of faith in his abilities... )

I agree, overall draft position in a clear cut rebuilding year, is the #1 reason by a large margin... but I think their are plenty of other secondary reasons for those who aren't even on board with team tank.

Plus... I really do want to see Enroth get his chance. I know no one has faith in him given his known deficiencies... but until a goalie gets to run with the starting gig, it's silly to write him off. I remember the play he put together in April 2011 when Miller got concussed vs Toronto... and I remember the play he put together the following November, when Miller again was concussed (Boston)

I'd like to see Enroth as a starter/split starter in 2013... it will suck that he'll be playing behind an awful team... but I'd still like to see him get one chance before I finally write him off and move on to Hackett and Makarov

In addition, Minessota traded Hacket because Kuemper passed him on the depth chart.

In other words: an abundance of top end goalie prospects in their system. Room for Miller?

Anyway, back to Miller....

So short-listing possible teams:

- Phoenix, especially if the Sabres use the new ability to retain salary
- Islanders, again retaining salary if they aren't already on his list of 8
- .... ummm....

So. Probably not much market there, and with the VanCans about to split a seem and move one of their tandem in trade, plus a variety of UFA options (Emery, Smith, Backstrom, Nabokov for example) as well as the ever-present possibility of a youngster like Bernier being in play this summer... there is no imputus for a team to give up a lot of assets to fill a need in net when they could attempt to either get younger/cheaper than Miller (Schneider or Bernier) or fill in a UFA-type for nothing but cash.

It's too bad Waddell is scouting for the Pens now rather than a GM somewhere, since he had such a love for Miller's play.

..except the 2006 Olympic roster. Of course, we know how that turned out...

It is. And that's why it's not going to be something "better than the Pominville" deal for a return. It's going to be a typical (or worse) goalie trade and people should be checking their expectations now.

I think we need a sticky Darcy thread .....

Anyway, I'm a Miller apologist and think he is under-appreciated but that doesn't mean it's not time to trade him. He was getting boo's on home ice, crowd turned on him, media turned on him so it's likely a good choice to move on before he demands a trade like Hasek, becomes a problem like Barrasso or just won't re-sign and leaves.

Just might be better for both Miller and the organization to part amicably after a decade.

Still think Coyotes would be the perfect trade partner if they only had an owner, GM, coach.

@Chain & others. Why not the Panthers too? Markstrom will be qualified, and if he's the future in FLA, why not a bridge year split with Miller?

BUF may not even have to pick up some of Miller's salary, but if they do, why is FLA still not interested?

Do you think FLA is on his limited movement list of 8 teams? If so, why?

Markstrom is ready to be the Panthers #1, Theodore was the bridge. Panthers may want a 20 start back up but not a controversy or competition.

I think the Devils could be a possibility, they took a gamble with Kovalchuk as well. Other than NJ, NYI, and PHO the odds seem slim to even have a partner. Maybe the Oil aren't sold on Dubnyk, or Ramo/Berra doesn't work out for Calgary, the Jets look to upgrade Pavelec, or the Flyers decide against the terrifying tandem of Bryz/Mason.

You answered BG's question perfectly. Markstrom is their guy, youth will be served there.

It wouldn't be a surprise if those three teams are on Miller's 8-team list.

I was going to say to the Isles. From Hockey Heaven to Hipster Heaven (Brooklyn). Miller to Williamsburg (e5).
