Take the 3 games where Saad got GWGs, and he has no GWG, 3 less +s and only 7 goals on the year.

The "Take that away" arguement is BS. It doesn't matter if its the 10 goal in a 10-1 game or the 1st 2 goals in a 3-2 loss, Goals (and Points) are hard to earn in the NHL, especially for Rookies.

Brodin and Yak not being nominated = Jokes.
Best rookie defenceman and the rookie goal scoring leader. Makes little sense.

If Saad was an Oiler and had the same stats he just had, he wouldn't have been nominated.

Well, that's pretty insulting. Whatever. I've hated the National Hockey League for a long, long time so this doesn't change anything.

Sorry, our bad, Toews and Hossa, we don't want to misrepresent a rookie getting cherry minutes with the best players on the best team in the league, that would be as wrong as NOT nominating the League's rookie SCORING LEADER for Rookie of the Year.

I guess they really showed him for celebrating too much after scoring goals.....

**** 'em at this point the Calder means **** all to me, RNH deserved it last year and didn't get it which IMO showed how full of **** the voters are.

It bothers me that Bob McKenzie is defending these nominations on Twitter. He seems to think that the biggest injustice is Brodin's snub. Ridiculous.

THIS a million times over! that's 2 years in a row the best rookie won't be winning rookie of the year and this time he wasn't even voted to be a finalist. Straight BS

Ah, it's always good to have a good laugh in the morning when you sit down and check out the hockey news.

You could see this snub coming a mile away. Lazy sportswriters who don't stay up past 9 pm who base everything off meaningless team stats, and word of mouth hype about intangibles, plus/minus, and shots. Add in the fact that Yakupov is a Russian player who likes to exuberantly celebrate his goals, and ruffled the feathers of a bunch of tightly wound media guys who spend all their time worrying about players stepping over the line into non-robot behavior/personality territory, and you've got a recipe where the top rookie scorer in the league isn't one of the top 3 rookies in the NHL.

He is part of PWHA so he wouldn't put them down. But Mckenzie said he had Brodin, yak and dillon on his ballot.

Saad played with both of them this season, not necessarily on the same line, but one a line with either of them.

Imagine if in the NBA the leading PPG scorer didn't even get nominated for the reward because he scored a couple 40 point games to end the season and raise his stats. That sound stupid? Because that's essentially what happened here.

If they're punishing him because he isn't "a good ole canadian boy" that celebrates excessively...bunch of *******.

Again - first time in 62 years that the leading rookie scorer is not a Calder finalist.

Which if you would have had Brodin and a couple of superstar rookie goalies might have been understandeable.

Of saads 600ev strength minutes he played 400 with hossa AND toews, 500 of them with at least toews.

Doesn't seem like MPS is too upset about it lol.

@mps_91: “@Oiler_fan_4life: @mps_91 How do u feel about @Nail10_1993 not being a Calder finalist?” Tough competition He could definitely be there!!

Also, never knew Yak was MPS's roomate.

They're sweeping him under the rug because he plays for the Edmonton Oilers. Eastern bias has been a fact of life for us since the 80's.

RNH's snub was much worse last year. He was clearly the best first year player. There's a large group this year with similar amounts of success. Had this been an 82 game season Yak would have seperated himself. Whatever, we have the best player now and going forward.

No one will respect this team until we start winning again. The Oilers are partially to blame as they hype themselves up so much and produce so little. Gotta back it up as a team at some point.

If huberdeau wins it there should be questions answered. That division has about as much defense as there are Stanley cup banners in Vancouver

There were reasonable arguments against RNH last year and I wasn't really upset that Landeskog won it but Yak not even being a finalist after leading rookies in goals is just beyond stupid.

I'm just going to stay out of the main forum. All of those rubes are probably taking shots at us and rationalizing the hell out of this.

Well I don't think both Yak and Brodin could have been nominated. Gallagher and Huberdeau were locks IMO. When was the last time the leading rookie scorer wasn't nominated? I think that's a little ridiculous. And how did Brandon Saad get nominated over him when Saad is playing on the first line all year with Toews and Hossa and still 4 points back? Yea he was +17, but everyone knows it's because of playing on a good team with two elite defensive players like Hossa and Toews.

I mean, Yakupov not only led rookies in goals, but his TEAM!
