Possible Ottawa RedBlack logos?

got this off the blog of someone who worked (note: past tense) on the project before leaving Downstream (the Oregon-based design firm) in charge of the design.

Also note that the Ottawa Fury logos on his site are similar to what is in the running for their logo.

you can see the website here:

There are more than 120,000 nouns in the English language. And these guys feel the need to make one up by combining two contradictory adjectives? It's either red, or black, or red and black. Not Redblack, which is meaningless, stupid and embarrassing. Why not the TallShorts, or the BigSmalls, or the StrongWeaks? I can't believe they're serious.

its just a team name, lots of weird things happen with sports teams nicknames. Like having a Centurion as a logo for a team in Canada...

Or a Spartan in Michigan, a Trojan in California, jungle cats in Detroit, Vancouver and Hamilton, etc. etc. Geography doesn't really come into it.
And yeah, it is just a team name. But why go out of your way to make up a stupid one?

The sawblade one's are really original. They won't go with it, but love the plaid.

still sounds like a punchline and an awkward innuendo.

Ottawa about to make their first pick in the CFL draft.

Pick 9. Has to be an underclassman because they don't start until 2014. Just to get kids in their pipeline.

edit: U of Iowa OT Nolan MacMillan, hails from TO. The first Ottawa "whatevertheyrecalled".

Why is it taking so long to announce the team name?

Thought they would have by now?

The inside joke on the TSN panel is saying "the Ottawa **cough, cough, Redblacks, cough, cough**".

It's all timing I think. They probably don't want to blow their load too early before they actually have to start playing. They'll keep this worst kept secret under wraps until the merch is ready to roll and tickets are ready to be sold. If they do it too early people may just lose interest very quickly.

Why don't they just call them the Riders or the Roughies if they don't want to have 2 teams called the Roughriders. At least it would bring back some of the identity of that team.

I believe the Saskatchew-ban includes both the Rough Riders and Riders. Roughies, I'm not sold on personally.

Well, here's the tsn.ca bit on the name & logo leak, and as you can imagine, everybody hates the name. Because it is awful.

Some comments:
- "Is that the best they could up with? Come on!"
- "Is this a joke?"
- "as a future fan this name is up there as worst team names such as the Mighty Ducks/Ducks, Raptors, Wizards and Utah Jazz ( they are least likely to listen to Jazz)"
- "Every comment from anyone who'se ever uttered a word about this potential name has been negative! Everyone HATES this name!! People have been begging them not to take this name? So of course this is the one they pick. The one they know everybody hates! Just boggles the mind. Just plain stupid."
- "Brutal name. What a wasted opportunity."

... and on, and on...

Even if they just put an '&' in the middle it makes it much better...

RedBlacks vs Red&Blacks or Red and Blacks.

everyone will get over the name eventually. it at least sounds kind of tough. i don't know why. maybe because i'm comparing it to rivermen or nationals

where is the 'B' in the logo? am i missing it? or is it not there?

(should have made the 'RED' in black color and 'BLACKS' in red. you know, just to get NUTS!)
