Meh. Hope this motivates him to work that much harder in the offseason.

It was close. No one truly stood out as the best rookie.

Yea he was +17, but everyone knows it's because of playing on a good team with two elite defensive players like Hossa and Toews.

I mean, Yakupov not only led rookies in goals, but his TEAM!

Like I said earlier, based on his stats they probably felt that Yakupov was spoon fed quality minutes and PP time all year.

Huberdeau always had the inside track on a nom because of the market he plays in. They've got to generate excitement and interest.

Eastern rationale needs to realize the team is loaded offensively, and horrible defensively. It's very impressive that he led over Hall, Eberle and Gagner.

David Staples Wrote" Huberdeau, Saad and Gallagher are all fine hockey players, but one has to wonder how many NHL GMs would trade Yakupov for any one of them."

Imagine, Yakupov was picked by an eastern team, he would have been surely in top 3, with a ridiculously great possibility of winning the race.

We can be cool about this. Yakupov is set to dominate next season. Schultz scored 75 total points in his first pro season. Klefbom is going to make him an all-star. MacT promised real change this offseason. We're going to score a potential 1C in the draft. We can be cool.

After the RNH snubbing last season I wasn't expecting any favors this season in terms of the Calder. That said I agree we have a lot to get excited about. Who do you think we pick at #7? There's talk that we might trade down and target Lazar, even his strongest supporters don't consider him future 1C potential.

Not surprised at all. Brodin being snubbed surprises me. I guess because he's a dman.

FFS I thought it was obvious I was being sarcastic. Yak definitely deserves it more and every stat will tell you that.

The 62 year streak for leading rookie scoring and becoming a finaliat is based off points not goals.

Either way as I stated earlier finalist should be Gallagher- Brodin - yak

Lol, Ladeskog won last year because he was the all-around better player, the award isn't a points contest, its for the player who has the best rookie season. In this case Huberdeau's Corsi Relative numbers are significantly better than Yakupov's. No slight against Yak, but Huberdeau was the better player if you are capable of looking past points.

I'd bet on Monahan or Lindholm, but Max Domi is the C I'd reach for if they're gone. I hope we see him in the Memorial Cup again this year. He's going to be a stellar NHLer.

Thanks, I haven't followed the draft nearly as closely this year as in years past. Domi seems to be all over the board, some say he'll be the steal of the draft. I'd love for one of Lindholm or Monahan to be there at #7 and I'd be more than fine with us looking to trade up to get the guy that we want.

Problem is, we need to get bigger and Domi is smaller than Gags

So then why didn't RNH win? 20 less games and the same amount of points = a bigger impact to me. Brodin was said by many to have the most impact on his team yet he wasn't nominated. The fact is this, no one knows what these writers are looking for, some of them probably have a hard time drumming up the mental capacity needed to tie their shoes. I for one am not saying that Nail should've won it, but I am saying that RNH should've and that Nail or Brodin should've been nominated.

Smaller yes and I haven't seen him, but it sounds like guys like Domi, Lazar, and Lindholm are all similar in size to Gagner but they are all grittier/stronger. Give me Mike Richards in Gagner's place and you wouldn't hear me saying a peep about our centers being too small.

This is voted on my writers, mainly eastern based writers who are asleep by 9pm and who's memories of Yakupov include his over indulgent cellies and Don Cherry complaining about him. The real travesty will be if Gallagher loses this.

From what I've seen, the only one I'd be confident saying that about is Lazar and his offence isn't even close to Gags (or Richards)
