He does carry the team.

Didn't Messier have a huge say in what the Rangers did, coaching-wise and whatnot?
Isn't it fair to say Rangers value Lundqvist >>>>> Torts, so if he "demanded" it, well?

Of course, but Hank doesn't want to come off as whiner or malcontent, i.e. "I dont sign this contract unless Torts goes".

Honestly, IF Hank did leave the team to go to a winning team, I wouldn't pull a devils fan and be all pissy about it. I'd root for the guy no matter what.

Obviously it would suck that my favorite team would likely slip into mediocrity, but if Henrik Lundqvist retires without a cup ill be genuinely disappointed

Assuming he remains a Ranger, get ready to be disappointed!

We are mediocre with him; we've been clawing our way into the playoffs with him for a few seasons now. Without him, we are at the bottom of the barrel, or very close to it.

You make it sound like Hank is the only "great" goalie who ever played on a mediocre team that doesn't score many goals.

What about Hasek who played on less than mediocre Buffalo teams at best, was bombarded on a nighly basis , won about 5 or 6 Vezina trophies in a row, and carried Buffalo on his back to the SCF vs Dallas?

Look, I love what Hank has given us over 8 years but face facts, he ain't no Hasek!

As it relates to Hank, I sometimes think it's a case of overhyping the best player on a lousy team!

A little OT, but oh how I miss the days of watching Hextall and Billy Smith go psycho on the ice. We need more mentally screwed up goalies in this league.

I can't recall anyone saying Hank is even close to the best goalie ever. Hank is the best right now, but obviously should not be compared to Hasek.

However, not many goalies in the history of hockey could have won that game for the rangers.

Hey if Henrik goes, it would be the only way we could become a Chicago/Pittsburgh situation. Plus, like you said, we all love the guy and realize he deserves better.

Just hope he'd go to the west

Nobody will ever be Dominik Hasek. Hasek also won a gold medal BY HIMSELF. That was the most impressive run by a goalie in the history of hockey. Hasek is a goalie god while Hank is just a goalie superstar. That being said, Hank carries this team and while he is GREAT, by no means does he have what it takes to win a gold medal or Stanley Cup literally by himself like Hasek did. Nobody will ever do what Hasek did again.

Did some research.

In his playoff career, Marc-Andre Fleury has recorded a 2.67 GAA, .905sv% and a record of 45-33. In the 78 games he has played, the Pens have scored 245 goals, or an average of 3.14 goals/game.

I wanted to figure out what Henrik's playoff record would be if the Rangers scored an average of 3.14 goals/game for him. For games that Henrik and the Rangers allowed three goals, I gave Henrik a tie. Yes I am aware that there are no ties in playoff hockey. Figure the games where Lundqvist and the Rangers gave up three goals could be either wins or losses considering the OT period, and allott them where you so choose.

This brought me to Henrik having a record of 29-13-15. His actual career playoff record? 25-32. So, he would have four more definite wins, and 15 chances to get more wins as well in the OT period.

Henrik Lundqvist's playoff career 2.3 GAA and .918sv% has only been good for an actual record of 25-32. That is heartbreaking.

Not to mention, in the Rangers past two years of playoff series, with 3.14 goals/game, Henrik would have series records of: 5-0-2, 5-0-2, 2-2-2, and 1-0-1.

Poor guy.

And people say that they'd rather have Fleury in the playoffs. Overrated because of the team he's on. He can let in 4 goals and still win. 1 goal for this team is a death sentence.

I think it's way too early for all of this talk about Henrik wanting to leave.

They played 2 playoff games, and Henrik was pretty rough for the first one. He was solid in the first period, but that breakaway was definitely stoppable and the third goal was as soft as they come. The second game was all Henrik and the offense gave him nothing. One game of being hung out to dry isn't the end of the world at this point. Let's see how 3, 4 and hopefully 5 and 6 go.

I am going to carry on my ritualistic onion and ginger burning ceremonies to supernaturally aid this team. Henrik needs some help. I've stayed away from HF in the last two games and now seeing as how I'm intending on being on for game 3, i might as well carry a good and superstitious attitude. Score a few for Henrik and we'll go from there. Still need to count to 16.

Agree with you 100%; Hank is the best right now but I wish some fans around here would be more interested in the team than in Hank's personal accomplishments!

Only 1 yr on contract left.

Another 1st round exit with >2 GPG support, he's gone for sure.

1 year to dramatically change the identity of this roster to score goals.

Yeah, I don't see much changing in 1 yr. He'll probably walk and sign with Brooklyn if I were to guess. Stays in area and gets to play with team that can provide support for him.

Once again, another year of our only elite player's career looks to be going down the toilet. Wonderful.

I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that hank's family is more important to him then chasing a cup.

Telling his wife that he wants her, and their young child to move so that he has a better chance of winning a cup? Not happening.

His wife can stay in same area.

He'll go to Brooklyn if he wants to chase cup and stay close with the wife.

Poor *******. Holds Washington to 2.00 GAA in Washington and gets two goals in support total. Get out as soon as you can.

Clearly he loves Manhattan and MSG and the Rangers organization, he's mentioned it so many times. I doubt he'd leave, and especially to an in-state rival.

So, how many Cups did Hasek win in Buffalo? Or do you imply Hank must win 6 Vezinas before he can leave this dysfunctional franchise? Hank carried them to the ECF last playoff, but it doesn't matter what you do if your team is badly outplayed every single series. Unfortunately, he's too loyal. He'll probably remain a Ranger his entire career and hence he'll never win a Cup. Maybe he'll pull a Bourque when he's getting older.
