What a jackass. Is he going to go home when he gets pulled?

CSKA1974 translated an interview n the WC where Bryz denied this:

Quote:
Ilya Bryzgalov: "It is believed that I will be a definite number-one goalkeeper? This is wrong”

Philadelphia Flyers goalkeeper shared his first impressions after joining the Russian team in Finland.

- I was really and seriously tired, but I was given rest in the last days of the regular season. So I had time to recover

- It is believed that you will be definite number one for this championship.
- This is completely wrong. The team gathered many high class players, and all of them came to defend national colors.

- We are very concerned about your psychological state.
- It is normal; I specifically came here to gain positive emotions.

- But you had an impressive altercation with the Philadelphia journalists. That must be upsetting.
- Philadelphia journalists have not been very good to me; I do not pay much attention to them. Just told them what I thought about them.

- We thought that if you are not considered as number one on the a team, you would not have joned the team. But now there are you and Varlamov.
- I've never said those words, you probably invented them.

First, since when folks on this board put any credence in what Philly media has to say? Or is it just double standard, we will trust them when they bash Bryz and ridicule them otherwise.

Secondly, Lisa Hillary was incorrect on 2 accounts. a) The news paper is "sport- express", not "Soviet Express"; b) she was quoting Slava Melamud, who wanted to be sensational as well. Basically, she used very questionable sources in her statement.

Below is my post from 4/28/2013 in Flyers atWC thread:

Below is my translation of the exerpt from Sport-Express. ru article:

"As it became known to "SE", Ilya Bryzgalov will be a #1 goalie for the upcoming tournament. Bilyaletdinov had already personally spoken with Flyers goalkeeper.
According to our information, the head coach had promissed a spot on the team to the veteran and have received the agreement. Bilyaletdinov's reasoning is evident- to evaluate one of the most talented goalies for the spot on the Olympic roster.

It has to be said, that one of the spots on the Olympic team has been already guaranteed for one of the candidates. It's Semen Varlamov. If Bryzgalov plays well at the world championship, he may secure the other roster spot for himself.

There was nothing in "S-E" article about Bryz's demands.

I was hoping that we have arepreive on Bryz bashing till October, I was wrong.

Hate on Bryz is unbelievable. Yes, he is not the goalie that the Flyers thought he would be; and yes, he should be bought out regardless of his play. But it is off season, let's rip him when he deserves it, not because we just hate him.

I think, it's totally fair to bash his on ice performance, but going into full frontal character assualt based on fiction. Come on, folks, you are better than that.

Yeah, I'm not believing the quote they're attributing to Bryzgalov.

Continuing my fixation on Blues players not named Pietrangelo or Shattenkirk, what about Halak as a G option? St. Louis has Halak (1 more year @ $3.75 mil), Elliott (1 more year @ $1.8 million) and Jake Allen in the wings. If Holmgren set up a deal for Halak, and amnestied Bryzgalov, he'd have Halak / Mason at a total of $5.25 million; ie, less than what Bryzgalov earns on his own.

Great option, but both Halak and Mason will be due to a raise in a year. I gues, we woud cross that bridge when we would get there....

My thinking was that you see how the season goes and extend the hot hand.

I'll bring it up casually over brunch on Thursday.

Playing devil's advocate against my own suggestion, Halak has had injury problems in the past couple of years. If you're a glass-half-full person, you could think that lowers his trade value. In Flyers-land, the more appropriate might be "Just what this team needs, an LTIR in goal, too!"

I still like the idea because I'm always on the lookout for a bargain.

And I will reinfoce it during a round of golf on Saturday.

What do you think they would want for Halak?

This is the part I'm really not good at. I usually try to give away too much (well, according to other Flyers fans). Read?

Yeah as I said before, people being unfair towards Bryzgalov with these interviews. It's insane, really.

Talbot for sure won't get it done, even with the non-aggression pact . It all depends how the off-season shakes out for the Blues and how much they sign the Big 2 to. That's why I would be interested in Bouwmeester (see other thread), who could be a salary shedding for much less trade value than his actual worth.

I bet his team mates were muttering to themselves after that one. It was ugly.

I did not see the game, but according to Russian fans on Sports. ru ( I am refencing them, not pro-Bryz population of the HF boards on purpose)- that was the low shot that got deflected. (Believe it or not )

According to them, only the first goal was savable. Overall, he's got a good review from them.

I'd like Halak for cheap.
Are there any goalie in FA other than Smith who could compete with Mason for a starting job? Because that's what I'd want if we were to buy out Bryz, get Mason and the other guy similar playing time and figure out who's staying.

I still wonder why the hell Stastny was in front of the Bryz (defense to blame) for the first goal (popped point blank right over his arm) and the 2nd goal was a total snipe job by Stastny while Bryz was screened very well.

That 3rd one... yeah, he really should of had that and not ducked.

He ducked out of the way. Hey Bryz, you're wearing a mask and pads for a reason.

How is it not a duck? Hes in position to make the save and lowers his posture away from the puck and puts his hands in front of his face. Not over his head, which would still be a poor play on that puck. I've never seen an NHL goalie that afraid of the puck
