As mentioned during the game, Stalock's been recalled.

Not really. The "black aces" are extra guys who practice separately (and are around for depth/injuries).

Stalock will be practicing regularly with the full team (so Niemi doesn't have to be a target, if he chooses to).

Sharks have extra two goalies (Stalock; plus Grosenick -- in name only), two defensemen (Hanan and Demers tonight) and two forwards (Gomez and Kennedy) on the roster.

I don't think they'll recall anyone more unless they have a guy go down "for the season". (Or if they want to expose "kids" to the NHL playoff atmosphere.)

He's not under contract this season so it was never an option.

Seems like nearly the entire AHL roster is in or heading to SJ for about a week. Pelech and Kearns were among those already here; got smiles from them today when I identified them. Rest arriving today (in shifts).

I've always just presumed CapGeek had Curt Gogol's contract wrong (it wouldn't be their only error) when they had his contract slide in 11-12, but it turns out they were right and his ELC did slide despite Gogol playing in the AHL.

That means WorSharks fans get to see Gogol's worthless arse on the ice two more season as opposed to just one more.

Any explanation as to why??

Also, Brace is "with" the Sharks in San Jose - it's a pretty good bet that he's either already been inked to an ELC or will be before too long.

Yep. The gist of the ELC slide rule is 10 NHL games if you signed your contract at age 18 or 19...it's just assumed by many that it's 10 "pro" games. Gogol's first season in the AHL (with no NHL games played) fell into the window of an ELC that slides.

Great news, eh?

Is Scheidl signed for next year or should we assume the same "no comment" for him being in San Jose as well?

An interesting comment in that article:
Quote:
Schwartz, 23, and several other younger players with two-way contracts -- eligible to play both in the AHL and NHL -- are in California for a Sharks prospects camp
I didn't think holding any kind of camp w/ players that aren't under contract (Brace, Schwartz, Hayes, etc.) was allowed this time of year. Anyhow, whether or not there's some kind of "camp" going on it's a great move by the org to have all of these guys around, and there's a LOT of them, as they usually just bring 6-8 of their "black aces".

Sharks hold a "bonafide" prospects camp in July. All Sharks draftees and ELC guys can be invited. The Sharks have ALSO invited undrafted junior and collegiate kids to that.

(This is kinda an "AHL experience level" prospect camp.)

AIUI, they practice "after" the NHL squad, not with.

Only the 16 listed in the NHL game roster.

There isn't a 'list'.

There's all of the players that are listed as scratches on the game sheets (as LS just mentioned) but there's quite a few more players around then that.

I think the writer of the article jumped to the conclusion it was a "prospects camp" because there's tons of prospects there and they're all practicing together. I'm sure if asked the SJ Sharks would refer to it as something like an informal gathering...

Ya, sounds like some are leaving today and more will be gone by the end of the week. Still pretty nice of the org to bring them out and give them a taste of NHL playoff hockey.

How about some late WorSharks news!!!!

There was a scoring change on Rylan Schwartz's 1st pro goal in WBS giving Livingston an assist...that gives Livingston 21 points on the season, one more than he had in his rookie campaign.
