Worth looking at Capgeek for this stuff. A lot of teams are in deep trouble with the cap, lots of potential for buyouts and trades.

Goaltending. 100% goaltending. Poulin needs to go back to the ahl. Nabby needs help and has really been an issue in the playoffs. A top pairing dman would look nice beside Hamonic.

In the real world streit is caught up ice having made a brutal pinch or his spinarama blind backhand pass was intercepted.

Nah, that could be another result but isn't normally the case on a play on the end boards. They will both go in hard and one try to dig it out. The only once getting skated by is Visnovksy because he lets the forward get their first and then tries to track him down. You've got the wrong defenseman....

Right...because of the pressure of creating offense on an undergifted offensive team...please

Of course he is, for the Isles AND the Pens.

This series is tailor made for Streits style. This is a skating, up and down, break-out pass filled, turn the other team around and strike in transition type series. Streit is playing well offensively in this style of game, as I would expect him to.

He also has been on the ice for 5 even strength goals against (2nd most on the team behind Hamonic who spends most of his time against Malkin and occasionally Crosby).

Streit is protected as far as who he goes up against and he has been his usual crispy burnt self on defense. Though skating next to that pylon (Carkner) certainly cant help. That 4th goal (a big one in the third period was all Streit getting beat by Dupuis. He was actually holding and taking a penalty while the puck went off Dupuis and in the net and completely out of position. Obviously the 3rd goal against was another one where Streit was out of position, but that was because Carkner got put on his ***.

It's a darn good thing Streit came through with the offense last night because if he didn't he was a pretty big goat.

If this team is going to continue carrying small, weak, non physical defenseman (AMac, Streit,Lubo, Hickey etc) and play them major minutes, they must get bigger at forward. Specifically at center. Need a big, physical center to match up and wear down other teams top centers. Frans is great with his stick and solid positionally but I don't see how he can be your checking center with this defense group. Far too weak and soft.

Yeah especially Vancouver there already $100,000 over the cap for next season and they still have 6 more players to sign.

Yes, that is definately it. You got it!! The islanders just dont have any goal scorers. Somehow managed to be 6th inthe East in goal scoring, but mostly do to Streit Norris like season and our under skilled goal scorers being lucky...

Streit is reckless. Always has been, always will be. To think it is correlated to any sort of offensive pressure to make plays is ridiculous. He is just not a responsible hockey player....stop making lame excuses and face facts.

in 3-5 years i'd like to see the isles roster to look somewhat similar to this.

Horton/Gaborik - Tavares - Nino
Okposo - Strome - Nelson
Grabner - Sunstrom - Bailey
Martin - Cizikas - Mcdonald/Dubinsky

Reinhart Donovan
Hamonic MacDonald
DeHaan Mayfield
Pokka Pedan/Pelech

Bernier
Poulin/Nilsson

They need a better playoff goalie, a top line wing with talent who draws attention away from JT and MM, and they need a BIG shutdown top pairing defenseman.

What will Snow give us?

Excuses.

Acquire Edler+Luongo from Canucks

But seriously, Isles need some better d and a proven goalie. Nabokov will not steal this team games in the long run and defensively the D coverage by some of the Defenseman are atrocious.

So what players on the current roster should not/will not be on the roster for next year?

What guys can you add? Get a top line winger and I say Reasoner goes. Boyes goes down a line or two and so on.

Get a top pairing defenseman and who can you subtract? Most will say Streit. Why?

Example:
Yandle Yandle
Viz Viz
Hamonic Streit
AMAc Hamonic
Carkner AMac
Hickey Carkner
Martinek Martinek

Which is tougher to play against?
Scratch Martinek for Donovan and which is better?
Which has a better PP, PK, 5 on 5, regular season and postseason game?

Goalies.....would you rather have someone win big regular season and suck postseason or go for someone who plays well regular season and goes clutch postseason? We'll need Garth to improve our team defense in the second route, but doesn't that make us more lethal in the postseason?

Time to build through addition rather than scurry to make changes that go nowhere a la Wiemer/Asham over Chow/Miller/etc. We have to BUILD on this year, not make changes to it.
