Canada's National Men's Team management group announces first group of players for 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship - HockeyCanada.ca - Sunday, April 28.

http://www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/new...d-championship

LS: So Canada has three openings on their roster - like the United States they will probably wait until the first round of the NHL playoffs is over and pickup players from losing teams. So there will be no Sabres (Ott-Ennis-Hodgson) on Canada.

Canada’s National Men’s Team management group to oversee team operations at 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship -
Lindy Ruff and Doug Shedden named to coaching staff - HockeyCanada.ca - Wednesday, April 17.

Dave Tippett and Barry Trotz join Team Canada coaching staff for 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship -
CanadaHockey.ca - Saturday, April 27.

CALGARY, Alberta, Canada – Hockey Canada, along with executive director Steve Yzerman and the National Men’s Team management group, announced Saturday that Dave Tippett (Phoenix Coyotes) and Barry Trotz (Nashville Predators) will join the coaching staff for the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. Earlier this month, Hockey Canada announced head coach Lindy Ruff (ex-Buffalo Sabres) and assistant coach Doug Shedden (EV Zug-Switzerland) as members of the staff.

With Rochester now eliminated, I'd speculate that Girgensons will join Latvia's squad. (LV)

Sekera played pretty good, was surprised to see Miro Satan on his team and a couple Sabre jerseys from the red and black days. Germany game just started, Ehrhoff is captain and Gogulla is on the team. Why didn't we re-sign him?

No Armia for Finland though, was hoping he would change his mind and play.

Cuz he got pissy and bolted back home when he wasn't gifted a roster spot.

that's why.

2-0 austria

lol

now 2-1

still lol that we had a 2-0 lead.

instead of 3-1, it's 2-2 now. Vanek blows a clear cut breakaway, all alone in fron of Bishop.

damn

now 3-2 for the US. ugh

for being one of the better goalies in Sweden last season, Starkbaum blows. holy hell.

4-2

turning it off now, it was nice while it lasted.

Lindy gets his first win of the tournament. Don't know why Dybnyk is in goal though, isn't there better canadian goalies who are not in the playoffs?

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE (as of Monday, May 6, 2013)

Stay updated with the progress of Buffalo's five participants in the 2013 IIHF World Championship taking place in Helsinki and Stockholm until May 19.

Christian Ehrhoff
A workhorse in the truest sense for Germany, Ehrhoff is averaging almost 31 minutes of ice time per game through his country’s first three outings – nearly 10 minutes higher than the next closest total. Ehrhoff has totaled one goal and one assist, and was named as Germany’s Best Player in their 4-1 loss to Russia on Sunday.

Thomas Vanek
Vanek has just one point so far in a pair of games, and that was Austria’s only goal in a 3-1 loss to France on Sunday. He also has a team-high 10 shots, and is averaging 18:23 of ice time. Austria returns to action on Tuesday against Latvia in a matchup of the Helsinki Pool’s only two winless squads.

Andrej Sekera
Just like Ehrhoff with the German side, Sekera has been logging major minutes with Slovakia in their first three games. Sekera has skated a team-high 24:29 per game, while collecting one assist and recording a single shot on goal for the 2-1-0 Slovaks. After playing three games in the tournament’s first four days, Slovakia is now off until they face Latvia on Thursday.

Jhonas Enroth
Enroth has split Sweden’s first two games with Jacob Markstrom, turning in a 17-save performance in their 2-1 win over Czech Republic on Saturday. He heads into Monday’s start against Belarus with a 1.00 GAA and .944 save%.

Zemgus Girgensons
After traveling from Buffalo to Helsinki this weekend, Girgensons arrived in time to play in Latvia’s 4-1 loss to the United States on Sunday night. Wearing jersey number 59, Girgensons was held without a point in the game, but won six of 12 faceoffs and recorded one shot on goal in 16:44 of action.

Vanek has scored 2 goals so far in 3 games. He has also hit the post 3 times, so no luck at all for him.

BTW Vanek doesn't look slow on bigger ice like many of you expected.
