Jonhson for a 4th???

I re-open the thread cause Ive been attacked by some and a mod didnt let me reply, why editing my last post and not other posters' ones?

I was only suggesting some of you to get a life and my post is edited...

I was only asking about an information and some of you jumped on this one to ridiculize me once again... So excuse me for having enjoyed my summer and sorry for all the games Im gonna miss this winter..

Now back to the topic... How can a GM trade a guy like Jonhson for a 4th round pick??? Even if its for 1 year only, this guy is high quality material and may help several teams to go far in playoffs... A steal nonetheless!

Yes but Johnson was traded before they added JR and Nolan.

Barnet is the worst GM in the league. He is paying a goon 1M$ (voluntarily paying Laraque) and gave him a no trade clause. He had a 50% turnover on his roster last season. The Comrie fiasco.

JR and Nolan.

With Mibury out, Barnett and Maclean are battling out for worst GM of the league.

Thats why.

Yes, but we don't know that Phoenix had those 2 guys in mind when they traded Johnson away.

Johnson for a 4th was a complete steal

i agree it seems like a good deal but it's a bit early to call him a steal let's wait and see what happens i remember being excited when we traded for the polish princess lol

The Comrie fiasco?

Nolan is looking great in pre-season.

Laracque was needed worse on the Yotes than any other team with the exception of maybe Detroit. The no-trade clause is a dumb idea but they weren't going to get rid of him within 2 years anyway and that's the length of the contract.

He's brought in Ballard and Michalek in one-sided trades and has assembled a top 5 in the league defense.

yes, I wish Barnett would settle his roster a bit but I don't know that I agree with your assessment of "worst GM in the league".

When the trade happened, some 'Yotes fans were saying that they considered Johnson their last season MVP and many couldn't understand how Gainey managed to get him for only a fourth.

He's a rental, but as far as depth players go, he's supposed to be a good one.

If he has a good season I'd like BG to give him a 1 or 2 year deal.

Yes we do. I think everyone knows Roenick's obvious connections and when the Nolan signing was announced, they also said they'd been in discussions for many months and the strong rumors over that time substantiate that.

Yes it was a steal - hope he does well for you guys. He has my admiration for battling back from looking like a complete loser to becoming an integral player.

I think he was traded, not only to make room for more veteran leaders but because his salary was going up quite a bit while his goalscoring declined considerably too. A team can only afford so many $2M third-liners and they prefer Scatchard (who was acquired in one of those terrible deals by our crappy GM for Tanabe).

I think Phoenix needed to dump a salary because of their UFA signings.

It was as much of a steal as Zednik for a 3rd was for WSH.

A year ago, the vast majority of posters on this forum would have said Zednik is in another league than Mike Johnson.

Zednik was dealt for a 3rd. Johnson for a 4th.

Neither were bad deals for any of the three teams involved.

they were only preparing the table for a future acquisition or for clearing a roster spot in case Russian prospect Enver Lisin is ready this year

Yep. Also he's a 3rd liner winning 1.9M that will be UFA at the end of the season.

You pretty much awnserd your own question there he was moved to make room to land a few vetran snipers, this deal was to clear up some cap space.

From what I can tell we traded Richard Zednick and a 4th round pick for Mike Johnson and a 3rd rounder.

Bob Gainey...... "I will never play texas holdem with you ever"

Forgot to mention this was also before the arbitration hearings for Nagy and Comrie which could've been much worse than they turned out.

No, cause that's what everyone will say when Zednik scores 30 goals playing with OV1.
