My thoughts on Free Agency:

Forwards:

Poile said we need to get less redundant and bigger so -

Horton or Penner

Defense:

We need someone for the 2nd line to play with Klein, so -

Mark Streit

Streit would be my #1 FA target. The top-4 would look much better for some time.

Weber-Josi
Streit-Klein
Bartley-Ellis
Blum-Gill
Ekholm-OKT

We probably need to move someone, but that looks great.

if we get a 2nd pair guy via UFA they will obviously come with a multi-year deal and so Blum is superflous

this would also allow Ellis to be a 3rd pair ES/PP specialist like it looks like he should be

Weber-Josi
Klein-Streit
Eliis-OKT
Bartley/Gill(I expect Gill to be traded if someone will take him, but if no the is back to mentoring)

Horton is easily the best forward for for us. Can smash bodies, score goals, and is a leader. Love the guys game and would love him as a predator.

Imagine how much better he would be if given way more ice time and being permanent first line, whereas in Boston he is buried behind some first liners.

If poile gets Horton streit and drafts barkov, he is sooooo in my good books!!

We should also draft some defense in later round after first, cupboards a little bare there, that's my wish list all in all for the offseason.

I honestly would rather go after Roy, Bozak, or Stalberg but Horton would be fine. As for 2nd line d-man I would love to get Ference or Clitsome. I'm not a big fan of Streit but he would deffinetely improve on what we have.

Interesting that Cooper mentions that the Preds were interested in Gonchar last summer, and may look that direction again.

He's 39, but still playing with a lot in the tank. I think that would be a great fit with Klein.

Less crazy about his suggestions at F-- Roy, Weiss, Horton

the bottom line is we dont necessarily have to hit a home run with our UFA forward.. we really just need to replace Erats 20-25 goals to stabilize the top 6 until Forsberg and whoever we draft this year get up to speed..

as for Gonchar, I cant imagine why he would choose to come here uless we offered either more money or more years than he could get anywhere else... he would seem to be in that "one last shot at a cup" career stage

Past relationship with Poile maybe? Opportunity to play on PP with Shea Weber?

No reason for anyone Cup chasing to come to Nashville. Team's not at that level.

I disagree on the cup aspirations comments. When you have Rinne and Weber, you have an easy argument that your team is cup capable. Add a FA or two, get healthy, make a trade or two, or some combination of these things and this team is drastically different on the ice. Gonchar would stabilize this defense, add an asset to be moved to the trade bin, and solidfy our hopes as a solid playoff contender.

This team is better than people give credit. The problem this year was new system, rash of injuries, young players with mediocre success, and a shortened season that never got off the ground. This team will be better next year with zero additions made, much less adding a guy like gonchar, possibly drafting barkov, inserting forsberg, etc.

This is an attractive place to play for these reasons and an organization known for its stability and work ethic. Add in no income tax ....

Are we 4th overall pick bad? No.

Are we a Stanley Cup contender next year? Not even remotely close.

The Preds are not 4th pick bad, the lockout took away the biggest advantage, Barry Trotz, no training camp, no needed practices between games to tweek the guys. This was the Predators without coaching and depending on talent...

nuff sed.

Streit has been on the ice for 4 of the 6 goals so far, two for each team. 2 assists as well.

When he's on the ice, things happen, it's just that half of the things are bad.

Suter has been on the ice for at least 5 goals against and has no assist.

But...but...NORRIS

On an unrelated note, Fluery is the single most overrated goalie in the league.

It's funny he should be the most relaxed goalie in the league with that offense.

Another goal against when Streit was on the ice. Wrist shot bounces off him and goes right bast Nabokov. "Own Goal".

EDIT: And he picks up a power play goal! 6 of the 8 goals when he was on the ice. 3 points (1+2) for Streit.
