Prospect Jan Marek has really taken his first year in the RSL by storm early on. He is first in goals with 6 in just four games and is tied in first in points with 7 (6G, 1A).

If he stays at the top of the goals/points leader board all season in the 2nd best league in the world then the Rangers should try anything to get him over to NA for a shot with the Rangers.

Looks like you're all set to go flyline. One player I don't see is Beller who is supposed to play for Yale I think. Another European player to keep track of if you could would be Furrer.

Within reason..

There is a good chance his Russian team will outbid the Rangers for his services. Marek might have all the talent in the world but he needs to sign a contract that makes sense to the Rangers.

Also he might look at the roster next June and not see a spot for him to play.

Very true. Hopefully though hes one of the players who just wants a chance to play in the best hockey league in the world rather then playing in the 2nd best just for some guaranteed decent money (even though im not even sure much they pay good players in the RSL but I can imagine its not much more then a million if that).

If he was one of those players I'm guessing he would've signed all ready.

I think the Russian leagues pay pretty well (1 mil to 2 mil) a year. If he can get a million bucks a year to play..less games, closer to home, and be the biggest fish in a small pond I'm guessing he stays.

As far as his NHL future goes..

I think he becomes a free agent if the Rangers don't sign him by next June. If that's the case he might as well just not do anything and go to a team that will have a need for him. I honestly don't think the Rangers are going to have a spot open for the guy.

Agreed, my whole thing was based on if he kept dominating in the RSL (which after only 4 games is still a huge if). If we lost him though I really wouldn't see it hurting out prospect system at all, I mean he hardly got any recognition anyway with him not coming over to play in Hartford and wanting to stay overseas the past few years.

We would be fine without him, he just may or may not be a jewel in the making...who know what will happen. The guy has so many question marks, and not just on his play.

"He's as sure thing a prospect as we have in our organization,” Don Maloney, Rangers’ VP of player personnel and assistant general manager. “He does so many of the little things in the game well, that poise that he plays with, the puck movement, his presence on the ice. If he needs to be physical, he can be physical."

"We're going to be very, very cautious," says Maloney. "The last thing we want is for Marc to turn pro, be in New York and not play. If we can be sure he'll play nine of every 10 games, then he'll play. If not, then I think that we really have to think long-term because if you start slotting a guy in, then he doesn't get the power play time, he doesn't get the penalty kill time, he doesn't get those important minutes at ends of periods, the time a guy that is going to be a core player needs to have"

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but Cliche is the captain of Lewiston.

2-0 Lewiston, no points for Cliche

5-0 Lewiston, 2 assists for Cliche

Owen Sound is down 2-1, I can't tell who scored because the OHL website is changed

Sanguinetti has the lone goal for OS

Kveton just recorded his first point in Junior hockey getting a assist on the lone goal so far, score is 1-1.

Cliche was named captain last year a few weeks into the season.

It was annouced though yesterday that Sanguinetti was named assistant captain of his team again. Bobby Ryan is the captain.

Fly

Thanks for the info

You have to reset Billy Ryan and Ken Roche. Last years numbers are listed.

Oops, thanks for pointing that out.

BTW Owen Sound has tied it up 3 seconds left in the 2nd...Sanguinetti getting the primary assist on that goal.

Sanguinetti scored his 2nd goal and 3rd point of the game in the 3rd.

Owen Sound lost though 4-3...can't blame him...did everything he could. Named 2nd star of the game....but what a way for him to come outta the gate in the season opener.

That is very encouraging, a player in his first game in a new league scoring 3 out of 3 points. 2 of which came in the 3rd. Great start, now lets hope he keeps that going.

Honestly, you guys definitely have a better prospect list than #6. You're easily Top 5, IMO.

9/22 Update

Almost all our junior prospects played tonight and here how they did:

The star of the night was easily Bobby Sanguinetti with his 2 goals and an assist in a 4-3 loss. Without captain Bobby Ryan in the lineup he stepped up and took over as leader.

David Kveton had a good start in the QMJHL as he recorded two assists in his debut. Marc Andre Cliche also had a pair of assists in the season opener.

Brodie Dupont scored the game winning goal in the 3rd period to give Calgary a 3-2 win.

Michael Sauer is back and it didn't take him long to get on the scoresheet, he scored a PP goal 5 minutes into the game. It wasn't enough though as Portland lost 6-3. He took a quick wrist shot from the top of the circle off the post and in for his goal.

Ryan Hillier is having a terrible start to his season, he still has not recorded a point in the first 4 games.

Artem Anisimov was scratched from his 2nd game of the season yesterday. He's only played in 3 games for his Russian team and has yet to record a point.

Eric Hunter scored a goal in his game, Tom Pyatt and Ryan Russell recorded a assist in their season openers as well.

3 Stars of the night
1st Star - Bobby Sanguinetti
2nd Star - David Kveton
3rd Star - Michael Sauer
