What a stupid rule. Why can't they just give the team eliminated first the highest pick and so on. Who cares about division titles.

Looking at Petan, he is ranked mid to high 20s, and he had 120 pts in 71 games, a huge improvement over the previous year when he had 35 pts in 65 games..

Small, but I think he has huge potential, high-risk high-reward pick if you ask me, and when he grows he could be even more threatening

Who's going to be in the 22-24 range? Looks like that's where we'll be.

Farcical isn't it. I understand pushing the division winners to last for that round, they got home advantage but having it combine two rounds was retarded. SJ loses next round and we are still drafting after them......

Correct. We are currently slotted to pick 26th however if any of the division winners that have more points than us - Pittsburgh, Montreal, Chicago, and Anaheim - are eliminated before the conference finals, then we move up the draft order to #22 at the highest. If Mtl is eliminated by Ottawa then we are at #25 while I have my fingers crossed for a NYI or Det upset to bump us up to #24 or #23. Looks like I'll have to wait for round 2 for any chance to see Chi get knocked out sadly ...

That might not be as easy as you think. Has Tanev even managed to put on 5 lbs in the last two years?

Do you not think the Canucks need to get bigger in their top minute players?

With Lazar you run the risk of drafting the next Rico Fata.

While 26th is the worst we could pick, it is extremely unlikely we get that unlucky. Montreal is already all but done so that would move us to 25 which is the most likely spot we could pick.

Think about it the 4 teams that make the conference finals all get picks 27-30. Say it's worst possible scenario and all are division winners. That leaves 2 divisional teams at 26 and 25. Seeing how the canucks have the 2nd worst record of divisional teams the only way they get 26 is if Washington is the only other divisional team. But as we all know Montreal is down 3-1 so it's very likely that they will be eliminated and so we atleast jump up as they would get 26 and we would get 25th.

IMO we pick 24. I believe atleast one of the other 4 divisional winners won't make the conference finals. When was the last time it was 4 divisional winners? Hopefully it's not Washington as them being eliminated does nothing for us.

I like the idea of drafting Petan and signing his brother.

Take the best player available regardless of current issues and needs. Why take the lesser player because you have a hole in you lineup right now? These late first rounder aren't likely going to be making the team with significant roles anytime soon. Not to mentioned that drafting late doesn't always guarantee a future top 9 forward or top 4 d-man so why take a prospect that's lower on your board?

Don't meant to come off as a rant or calling you out, just have an issue with this mentality from fans in general since this is very different compared to the NFL and NBA.

About Petan... I just can't see our scouts drafting another 5"9 Center with the direction the team is heading. Who knows though GIllis might be fired by draft day.

I think they need to get more skilled (and faster) in their top minute players. We have enough Hansens, Burrows, and Kassians. Would kill to have some flat out skill - esp. natural goal scoring ability - in our top 6. Too many crest snipers on this team atm ...

Yes, the team does have a lot of the same types of guys. What's Grabner doing on the Island?

I don't think that's correct. We are the first team and division winner eliminated from the playoffs. Thus, we are currently 26th.

If MTL loses, then we are 25th, etc.

There are still a lot of moving parts. We won't know until the semis are done, so it's sort of pointless to guess.

I have a question:

If the Canucks were somehow able to acquire a Top 3 pick in the draft (say via an Edler trade) and the Canucks were able to choose, would people prefer MacKinnon or Drouin?

I'm torn based on a centre need and an elite winger need.

The only one we could get would be the 3rd overall if we traded Edler to Tampa Bay. Both Florida and Colorado have a far greater need for Mackinnon and Jones then what anyone would offer for the picks. At 3rd overall we take whoever is left, likely Drouin.

Send a message via AIM to y2kcanucks
For THIS team, my top 3 picks would be MacKinnon, Drouin and then Monahan.
