I remember once my friend applied for the manager's job at Leeds United football club, they sent him a nice rejection letter and everything

haha that's pretty awesome. Only rejection letter I ever got after a job application was at a call center... Not many people can say that

When do EIHL camps open? I know it's still April lol

Pre-season usually starts in late August

I thought you weren't interested in the EIHL anyway?

I'm not really but I'm always curious to see where National team Brits are playing.

With 72 points in 11/12 you would think so

Was hoping he would stay in Sweden, it's a much better, more professional league despite being 2nd tier. But from the sounds of the Steelers' press release he will be making the big bucks

Could have something to do with him getting married. If Mike Fisher can get a trade from Ottawa to Nashville for his wife, I wouldn't be surprised if Dowd signed back home for his new wife

It would have been nice to see him stay in Sweden, it could have opened some doors for GB players in the future.

It just seems weird that Dowd would go to Sweden for last year, then leave when Paul Thompson signs on as an Assistant coach. I figured the two were linked, seeing as there isn't much GB content in Sweden and these two were both involved with the same team.

Yeah, with Thommo there I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of Brits go there in future, he already took Shea Guthrie with him. It could maybe be an option for guys like David Phillips, but I am really hoping James Griffin will go there

Ye I knew Guthrie went, only problem is he's Canadian lol

I wonder how long it'll take for him to become a Head Coach over there

I'm really pulling for Thommo to succeed in Sweden so then more people will take up coaching and take it seriously. One reason the EIHL remains a bit of a joke is the player-coach culture, there need to be more proper coaches, only half of the teams in EIHL and EPL have one then go down to NIHL and it's even less than half. Most of them are just past it and taking up a roster spot that could be given to a younger player

Most teams can't afford a non playing coach, it's cheaper to get an import or top Brit to take on the job at slightly more money.

There's the Phantoms coach and Nick Poole. I think Payette may stick to the bench this season, or you'd hope so if they want to win some games. Tom Watkins is changing to a non playing coach I believe. If Cox is staying as coach and players like Dixon and Hand, retire then you'll have a few more I think.

I much prefer the role of a non playing head coach personally but I don't think, in the EPL anyway, there is much of a correlation between success and the coaches and until there is I don't think teams will bother to fork out for a pure non playing head coach.

Oh look, another good promising Brit has had to drop down to the EPL due to lack of ice time because of the increased import limit. Sam Smith leaves Coventry for Swindon, after having scored 36 points two seasons ago.

So who has the EIHL lost so far because they weren't getting ice time?
Matt Towe
Ryan Watt
Sam Smith

Swindlehurst and Nell have made the step up, but all of those players are good enough for the EIHL. The excuse for increasing the imports was that top Brits Farmer, Richardson and Dowd had gone abroad, but now all of them have come back, but they're keeping imports the same, what a farce.

But, but! If we decrease imports the big mean nasty arena teams will buy all the best Brits! boo hoo, call the waaambulance

Sam Smith - 21 years old, 6'3" 220lbs, 3 years of EIHL experience in which he played 156 games and seemed like he was good, and he can't find an EIHL role?

It's this type of stuff that makes me unable to follow/understand EIHL/EPL.

Yeah, the whole system is completely broken. I keep getting told changing import limits won't make a difference and "you can't build the roof before the foundations" and all that, but in reality it'll do no good fixing the grass roots development and producing good players if there are few opportunities for them here when they get to adult hockey. There's loads of good British players playing in the EPL who should be playing in the EIHL but in their place are cheap local kids sitting on the bench because teams spend all their budget on imports so can't afford decent Brits for the 3rd line. This then harms the development of said cheap local Brits who would be better off getting regular ice time at a lower level.
