Niemi finalist for Vezina

It's on NHL.com. He's not going to win the award, but pretty awesome to see him get nominated.

Not just nominated, but a finalist for it. Congratulations to Niemi. I was a doubter but this year he carried the team through some rough patches and thats what makes a great Goalie.

Bob realistically should win it, but Ill cross my fingers!

I think Bob would be a stronger candidate if Columbus had made the playoffs. I think this is more in favor of Nemo right now.

Guess we will find out.

Lundqvist will get it, but I'm glad he's getting some recognition. He's been outstanding all season.

Absolutely deserved. I`m just sad that most people still don`t think of him highly enough. He always gets marked as the goalie who can get hot but shouldn`t be considered as one of the top5. At least from my experience. And that`s unfair. This year he proved he can.

I`m also (pleasantly) surprised Bobrovsky did get a nomination despite not making it to the postseason. Good for him.

I don`t think I need to say who I`m rooting for. Definitely not the Queen.

Nemo has the wins and minutes played going for him. (And good GAA, save %)

Realize that this is voted on by the 30 GMs (not writers, broadcasters).

It's great that he's been recognized for his hard work this year (and during the lockout).

(I'm still waiting to hear what's happening with the "NHL Awards" event. All I know is that it was scheduled for Vegas before the lockout, but not on the schedule for events anywhere last I looked at the NHL calendar.)

this sounds promising...

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
The few GMs I asked about their Vezina vote all had Bobrovsky and Niemi on their ballot but the 3rd name varied...

And Niemi beat him in wins by a lot.

It'll be Lundqvist, but Lundqvist's shutout total SHOULD disqualify him, but it won't. I truly think Niemi was the best goalie in the NHL this season and deserves it, but it probably won't end up that way.

This reminds me the situation when Marty won instead of Nabby in 2008. I didn`t agree with it, but I couldn`t complain, obviously.

Anyway, Lundqvist has a chance only because the votes in the Western conference split between Niemi and Bobs (common problem). That said, there`s no guarantee that all the Eastern conference GMs voted for Lundqvist. It`s actually unlikely. My fandom aside, I know I wouldn`t. Sure, the Rangers would have been in even deeper of a hole without him, but his season wasn`t spectacular by any means, especially compared to last year`s (in fact, Quick could`ve/should`ve won it).

I believe you are right, but not because the coaches are pro-conference, but because of the lockout. There was no inter-conference play this year. Eastern Conference coaches have not seen either Niemi or Bobs in person.

You mean the managers, right? I`m pretty sure they pay attention to both conferences though. That said, it could still be a factor.

This looks like Couture's Calder all over again.

Niemi made the playoffs and has respectable numbers especially where it counts (wins and games played like Couture's +/- and type of minutes).

But Bobrovsky has the media hype so he'll win it. It makes for a better story, and that's all they care about when you boil it down.

Nice! And I think he has a decent chance since the BJs didn't make the playoffs.

Do you guys realize that "being nominated" means "being in the top3"? It`s already decided, just not revealed yet.

If this was a factor at all, Bobrovsky wouldn`t be in the conversation. But since he is one of the top3, there`s a solid chance he actually won.

Couldn't not making the playoffs have bumped him from number 1 to number 3 on a lot of ballots? (is that how the GMs vote? Top 3?)

Either way, I hope it's Nemo or Bob, screw the Rangers

No, they make a "full list". Usually it`s five or six guys since it`s always a smaller group (of voters and electives).

And no more changes, what`s done is done.

Oh and I like the cut of your jib.
