Your point is? Gionta isn't finished, he was a big factor this year coming back from the same injury last year(other arm).

Smurf tears are a key ingredient in removing curses. Interesting strategy, might work.

A real shame about Gionta. A great guy and a pretty darn good hockey player. It's a big decision for him to end his season and potentially his career with this surgery. Hard to face but these could have been his last hockey games in the NHL considering his contract situation and obvious injury problems. Best of luck to him.

Just because he's on pace for 20-25 goals and 50ish points doesn't mean he's worth playing 1st line key minutes.

At this point in his career, I think he's more suited to be a 3rd liner similar to the role Eller was given this season. A role I find replaceable by a player that would fill more team grit/size needs and lower cap.

Jesus, a guy shows emotion and you're all over him. Would you rather him not care that he can't be on the ice to help the team win it in 7?

What a stupid ****ing fan base we have. Who the **** cares what other fans think?

If anyone has to question a guy like Brian Gionta, they dont know hockey & havent followed his career.

Stupidity.

Sucks for Gionta. Good luck if that's the end of his career, give him a job in development. He's a good guy his offensive play has just fallen off a cliff and shutdown 5'7 forwards aren't too effective.

He's a great hockey player, perhaps not the best fit for us considering our current roster but an outstanding player nonetheless. Disappointed in my fellow fans.

Some Habs fans really don't deserve any happiness.

@ caring what envious fanbases think. There is not a single fanbase that would not trade their franchise and history for ours. This shows me that our captain cares and laid it all on the line. I'll always be a fan of the little guy.

Not that there's anything wrong with crying, but this is likely something Gionta didn't want out in public..

Agreed. Maybe Therrien meant that figuratively more than literally, even if Gionta showed emotion.

****ing pathetic. People complain about our team not having any heart then they jump on Gionta for this, when he's baring his heart and soul and love for the Habs for the world to see?

I hate this fanbase. So. Much.

Speaking personally, I don't think there's ANYTHING wrong with crying and showing emotion.

My only issue with this, is that Therrien took it public.

The macho ******** in this place (montreal, also HFBoards) is ****ed.

But yea, taking it public is a little crazy. I think maybe showing that even though the Habs are close to out of the series, they haven't given up hope?

Too many neanderthals in here. Facepalm because a hockey player cried...we are in 2013 right?

Though I agree Gionta probably did not want this to go public.

Purely in terms of offense is a 2nd liner, but his PK/defensive assignment minutes give 1st line minutes like Plekanec. Maybe his role will have to decrease, but he was able to handle it this year.

Eh, we've all seen plenty of players cry after losing Gold at the Olympics or after losing the Stanley Cup clinching game. I can't recall who any of them are, if we don't make a big deal out of it, it won't be one.

Gionta's time in the NHL is indeed probably nearing its end, and it was starting to show more and more this season since he pretty much nerfed his line mainly into a defensive one.

Nothing wrong with him crying. He loves the game and wants to play and help his team.
