I suppose it is.

I feel we need a youth movement and draft guys like Fucale, Domi, Dano. Our Defensive prospects are sick we just need to balance it out with a #1 goalie prospect and hard nosed forward workers in Dano and Domi.
I think our goalie prospects are fine, Hartzell is technically our #1 goalie prospect, the Pens do need to add another talented forward prospect.

Not hitting panic button yet but if we exit early Fleury and DB out the door. Who is a great coach available in offseason? Thanks
Guy Boucher, guy can coach defense.

He's a RFA this summer and I see him walking from LA.

I think he'll tell LA that he doesn't want to re-sign and they won't offer a Qualifying offer.

RFAs don't just walk away and Shero doesn't seem to be the offer-sheet type. you're going to have to trade for him.

I wonder if we could trade Orpik and/or Niskanen and fit Iginla, Dupuis and one of Cooke/Morrow/UFA of similar price and still build a solid defense.

My thinking is the Right Ds would be Letang, Martin and Engelland/Bortuzzo and the Left Ds would be Despres, Eaton/Murray, Dumoulin/Harrington.

In two/three years Im picturing:
Harrington Letang
Despres Martin
Dumoulin Bortuzzo
If everything worked out.

Though I honestly dont know if I can see this happening with DB as the head coach.

If we offer sheeted him at $4m ($16m for 4 years say) and If it were to go through it'd be a 3rd or 2nd I think. I don't think it will though, the above is what I hope will happen.

LA does have a lot of RFA's this year to qualify but it depends if they think they can get a better back-up elsewhere and if they're willing to let him go.

I would be SHOCKED if the only changes, absent some miracle, is Fleury going bye-bye, a Bernier offer sheet, and Bylsma being fired.

EDIT: I personally think that one of Malkin or Bylsma has to go at the end of the year. If Bylsma doesn't, then would anyone be surprised if Malkin doesn't, a la Staal, say something like 'I've got one year left on my deal, and I'll see what my options are then'. I really can't see him signing long term if Bylsma is the coach.

Moving on from Fleury could really ease the cap situation going forward. I don't think we really get enough bang for our buck paying him 5 million right now anyway. Of course we'd have to find someone willing to take him which likely won't be easy.

After this past month I'm not all that excited about re-signing Iggy. I'd take him for 3 yrs $3M, or maybe 2 yrs $4M. Anything beyond that is ehhhhhh.

I agree. I think Edmonton would probably bite though. Combo deal involving Fleury + Niskanen/Orpik?

Yeah. He certainly hasn't looked like a 5 million dollar or more per/year player. Although that could partially be due to a lack of chemistry with Geno and having to play out of position at LW a lot. I'd only want him back if it's in the 2 years and 4 million/per range that you mentioned.

Edmonton does seem like a good fit if Fleury gets moved.

As long as the combo coming back included one of Hall/Eberle/Yakupov, and there's a backup plan in place for Fleury, yes please.

Fleury
Niskanen
+

for

Hall
Musil

Then go for a back-up goalie this year in free agency for a starting position when Vokoun leaves. Khudobin would be a good fit I think.

I know, I'm just throwing things out there but Edmonton will need to offload someone on a big cap or who is expected to ask for a big cap for the future because I don't see them keeping all their key players.

Yeah, there's no chance Fleury fetches any of the young stars on Edmonton. He might fetch Hemsky if Edmonton wants to move close to an equal amount of salary in the deal and we want a player in return. I know Hemsky has his warts and is owed 5 million next year but so is Fleury. I think the Pens would rather have a pure salary dump of Fleury but that may not be possible.
