Mind you, Eakins is actually four years older than Boucher and has been around the NHL/AHL for 20+ seasons. But in either case, I think you can bring in veteran assistants if that element is needed. Boucher would probably have Marty Raymond as his forwards/special teams guy, Raymond got dumped to the AHL when Boucher was fired in TB. He doesn't have a long NHL history, so the veteran would probably have to be the D coach. Terry Murray, maybe? Eakins has had the same assistants, Derek King and Gord Dineen, all four years in Toronto, and both guys have been around the NHL since the 80's, so that would work as a package.

Yup, good points about Eakins.

If you change the GM, you don't fire the coach. You let the new GM decide. Usually they "go with their own guy"...

Just saw that, thanks.

No mention of AV speaking, just Gillis. Of course, that doesn't mean anything - AV didn't speak to the media last year, either.

On the radio today, Lebrun said in buffalo it was a management decision to change style, and Ruff is a very offence type guy. Can anyone confirm if that was true? I remember them being an offensive team, but am not sure who choice to change them.

GM Mike Gillis to appear at #Canucks press conference tomorrow. No mention of head coach Alain Vigneault.

Still remember Tie Domi trash talking Ruff though (eg., His opinion of Lindy Ruff as a player: "He's Ruff at home but Lindy on the road").

Had to work with a budget team (like Trotz does in Nashville). Except for recent history - where the owner went out and spent a ton of dough on questionable acquisitions (eg., Ehrhoff as a player was allright - it's the contract that was the problem)

I have a sickening feeling that Gillis is going to can Vigneault and replace him with Arniel.

if he does that, might as well resign himself too. TOO many times vancouver finds replacement coaches within the system.

Who to replace AV is the main question if you all want him replaced-and rightfully so.

Guy Boucher
Scott Arniel
Paul Maurice
Pat Quinn
Lindy Ruff
Don Taylor
Tom Renney

They're not all Stan Smyl coaching types though.

- Randy Carlyle who won a Cup with the Ducks and coached the Leafs to their first playoff birth since John A MacDonald was prime minister.

- Alain Vigneault - despite the way his reign ended here - was a great coach for the team

He wasn't? Ruff got teams that had no business being in the playoffs into the playoffs. Before the new owner a couple of years ago that team was a revolving door of talent, when contracts where up, players left because the team wasn't willing to spend any money on them. He may not be the best choice for the Canucks, but he did well in Buffalo.

"It is what it is". Or alternatively, "We tried our best".
