they got to do alot more then that. SJ has been a powerhouse for ne a decade and have done NOTHING if they they get past round changes are coming. Seeing as their round 2 opponent looks like it will be the Hawks good luck with that.

I still like Kass, but I can't see the Sabres trading back for him.

E: I suppose a big part of whether or not Buffalo would want him back would come down to 1) whether he had a good relationship with Rolston in Rochester and 2) how much influence Rolston has over player acquisitions.

I will say that he is the type of player we need, along with scoring wings and physical D, but his attitude has always been pretty bad and I want that type of attitude out of our locker room coughstaffordcough.

In a deal for Vanek, I'd want Kass AND Jensen coming back, but that simply won't happen because Vancouver looks to be shaking things up in the near future and will want to keep prospects.

It really sounds like the two most likely landing spots for Vanek are Minnesota or Nashville. Minny has the best chance of resigning him since his wife is from there, he played college hockey there and they live there in the off season. Nashville is a rumored possibility in a trade for the Sabres moving up to #4 pick in the draft with part of the deal being a conditional pick if he resigns. Notice both teams are in the west. Darcy will not move him to a team in the east. In both cases Sabres would have to retain some salary.

Minnesota doesn't really have cap space to take Vanek without moving someone significant off their roster. And also they just sent out a bunch of prospects and picks for Pominville. I doubt they're really interested in gutting their prospect depth to add Vanek too.

That is true but they still have a stable of prospects. When Minny called the Sabres originally they wanted Vanek. They ended up with Pommer but Vanek was their goal. Heatley may not be back so that frees up some cap space. Maybe as part of a deal we take back some salary dump.

What even. That's not even kind of true. Per Regier's post-deadline interview: MIN called him originally about a month before the deadline, asked about Pommer. They discussed a few players, but ultimately Minnesota wanted Pominville.

We're blessed to have one of the best "trading" GM's, I'm sure Regier will get what he wants.

I'd love for the Habs to get him. What does Buffalo need? Prospects I assume. Any particular position?

Defense and wing mostly.

Go back and listen to the Regier interview. Darcy says that the original conversations with Minnesota revolved around another player and only migrated towards Pommer the night before the trade. That combined with the chatter that the Wild were trying to bring Vanek home, makes it fairly obvious.

1) Skilled wingers
2) More skilled wingers
3) I guess defenders would be OK. In particular, we're lacking a blue liner who can skate and has some snarl/grit in their game.
4) Seriously, we need some natural wingers

What do you think? Something like Kristo+1st+Thrower?

Not a terrible offer. I just don't think Darcy will trade him to an eastern conference team.

I don't get this theory. If Buffalo's going full blown rebuild, who cares whats conference he goes to? I mean what if we trade him to the Duck's and the Duck's trade Perry to an Eastern team? Would that be any better?

That is very true but GM's are afraid the guy they move will come back and torment them.

I pass....there are better prospects elsewhere with teams.

i am not taking a winger just because we need one...one of the players coming back would have to be on the top 3 list of future prospects under 24.

Buffalo lacks the depth i n wingers. Any deal for Vanek should ideally involve getting a winger or two with top 6 potential in return.

Are you looking for NHL experienced wingers or are winger high end prospects and picks acceptable?

Either, probably. My personal preference would be toward getting a roster player back or at least a prospect who's close to NHL-ready. Because moving a player of Vanek's caliber without getting at least 1 asset that you can count on helping your team, in some capacity, would be a disaster.

Nope. You can keep your buyout fodder and bottom 6er.
