Stoll 2
Regehr 2
Doughty 1
Martinez 1
Scuderi 1
Brown 1

Dismal first period. Not surprised that Quick is going to have to steal this game for the Kings to win.
Toffoli had a few ok shifts, one where he was the only guy to get the puck out with a solid hit, preventing the 4th line from getting stuck in the zone again. I think he was one of the few to drive to the net for a scoring chance

Honestly, the Kings defensive zone strategy completely baffles me. They don't cover the points along the board, they cheat towards the middle, yet their defensemen always throw the reverse pass along the boards. This just crosses up the entire coverage in the defensive zone.

It just gives the Blues a free shot from the point and they generally are able to walk right to the top of the circles.

The other play that I don't understand is why the Kings wingers don't pressure the puck holder when they skate towards them, they always back off and "cover" the points. Yet they never actually cover the points, they just drift between the tops of the circles. Brown did it twice and it resulted in some pretty good chances on goal down low.

It's not as bad as it looks if we make our breakout better and support the puck better we are easily the better team. With all that possession their forwards had barely any shots.

He was part of the cycle and helped forced a turn over that led to the Williams goal last game

We all know that Sutter loves to roll 4 lines, but the 4th line has sucked all season. They were such an important part of the cup run last season that it is shocking how bad they have been this season. Fraser was 0 for 3 on the draw, Clifford couldn't clear the puck if his life depended on it and Toffoli is a skilled winger put on the 4th line.

I would rather see Ellerby available to take some of Muzzin's 5-on-5 minutes. Ellerby can also play the right side, something that Muzzin and Martinez can't do. Scuderi is playing with both Martinez and Voynov.

The Kings withstood the storm and the Blues are now down 1 D man. Hopefully Muzzin calms down and the Kings can put some pressure on the Blues and get more time in the O zone.
I with Sutter had stuck with 7 D , that worked pretty good.
Go Kings

Does anybody know if CBC has said anything about the game being on one of its 8+ channels?

Agree. Toffoli's skill is lost on the 4th line, and it's pretty obvious he lost all confidence in Nolan. The 7 d has worked but I can see how it would drain the energy out of the forwards, especially being on the road.

My guess is that Sutter switched back to six defensemen because he knew he wouldn't be able to control the matchups. The seven defenders allowed him to tailor the pairing to the situation, but without that capacity he might have tried to opt for a more stable, general approach with three pairs.

The Blues really are the most structurally sound team in the NHL right now. Their defense is so tight, they break out the puck with beautifully, and they have great support in the offensive zone. They ALWAYS outnumber you at the puck.
