If he is under contract, wouldn't that send the signal that it was time to abandon ship in Detroit? I can't imagine something like that happening since that would mean Datsyuk would certainly leave the next year.

Just a thought...
IMO that would be a dream hire. I think Babcock is an excellent coach Detroit or no Detroit. Those Anaheim teams weren't that great but they did make the SCF with him, although that was thanks to Gigeure playing like a god you still have to give him some credit.

Babcock is a hell of a coach, no questions asked. He's lead teams that had no business winning games to championships from his start in university hockey here in Canada to the NHL.

If he was who the Stars and Nill are targeting to be the head coach, I'd be happy with this off-season before any trades or signings are made.

Datsyuk may leave next year to play in Russia anyways.

Rumors of him heading to Western Michigan to coach. Just a name I threw out there to get some discussion on this seeing as it's been 7-10 days and not much has been mentioned in terms of a new coach for Dallas. Perhaps Nill is waiting to talk to some Detroit coaches?

Can Babcock just breach contract and leave? His contract expires in 2015....

If we could get Babcock I'd do backflips. Hell, I'd do somersaults if we could get Vigneault. If either one of those guys gets hired by us, we jump from mid-pack in a "suits" power ranking to about the top 5 in a matter of a month.

Where are you hearing these rumors? Why would an NHL coach with one of the cushiest jobs leave to coach directional-Michigan?

That rumor was dispelled two weeks ago.

Settle down sunshine.
It was mentioned on NBC. Obviously as has been stated it was disspelled.

Where is directional Michigan by the way?

So Nill was on The Ticket this weekend and said we will know about the fate of Gulutzan early this week, maybe even today. Didn't say when they would replace him but did say we will know his fate soon here.

Even though it's really not fair, I hope he's gone.

I mean that he hasn't had a real direction organizationally, or the time to implement a system with a stable lineup. He's probably not a good match with Nill, but I guess we'll see what Nill has to say about that shortly.

It'll probably be tomorrow. He's in Austin tonight to watch the baby stars.

Speaking of Nill, I like that guy more and more everytime he talks. His interviews are great.

Plenty of Wings fans always seem to turn up at the AAC whenever Detroit's in town.

Bet they're thrilled.

Pretty sure he said he'd be in OKC for the game when he was on the ticket. Could be wrong.

Finally, the biggest mistake of Nieuwendyk was maybe to fire Dave Tippett...

Getting rid of Tippett was the correct move. A change was needed at coach.

Anyone else thinking he is waiting to see if someone in particular who is currently in the playoffs gets fired after their season ends?

I think the conditions are a little too perfect for AV not to come here. I'll be surprised if he's not fired, and there's a good chance Gaglardi pushes for him since they have a good relationship.
