What would we look like without Ribeiro

Whithout Ribeiro...

Higgins, Koivu, Ryder
Latendresse/Kosts, Bonk, Kovalev
Samsonov, Plekanek, Johnson
Begin, Lapierre, Lats/Ferland/Murray

Don't think it is any worst

For the last time, Bonk doesn't have the offensive capabilities that Ribeiro has (if he did, don't you think Gainey would've noticed?). He's looked better than he did last year, but still not to the point where he deserves the second line spot ahead of Ribs.

I'd rather play "what would we look like... without Bonk".

Subtracting a legitimate 50-60+ point center is always a good idea. Especially when your number one center is injury-prone.

Enough with all that Ribeiro bashing. He as done a great job so far in pre-season.

Sure, Bonk is a good center........on the 3rd or 4th line.

I like those lines a lot but I thing by keeping Ribeiro we can be even better. I'll do something like this

Higgins - Koivu - Ryder
Latendresse - Ribeiro - Kovalev
Samsonov - Plekanec - Johnson
Begin - Bonk - Murray/Ferland

On each line we have some guys who can crash the net and score some "garbage" goals once in a while. And Ribeiro - Kovalev play very well together, it's just pre-season, they will find their tempo soon enough.

Plekanec can make any player a better player because he sees everything on the ice. So putting Samsonov with him is worth at least one try during the preseason.

And Samsonov can play on the PP if Kovalev play the point

PP1
Higgins - Koivu - Ryder
Sourray - Kovalev/Rivet

PP2
Latendresse - Ribeiro - Samsonov
Streit - Kovalev/Rivet

Markov on the first PP. Rivet on the 2nd with Kovalev taking Sammy's place.

I'm going to start making these Anti-Ribeiro threads myself. I think there's a prize for the 10,000th.

True I forgot Markov...

I just feel we should give Samsonov some time if we put him on the third line with Pleks and Johnson. After all, we pay him 3,5M and he can very useful on the PP.

Well no doubt they'd get PP time. It's not like you can only have 2 PP lines. I think as long as Samsonov gets 25goals and 50-60ish for his first season with us, we should be happy. My expectations aren't very high on him, so hopefully he'll surprise.

Hopefully like you've said. I'm pretty sure he'll have a decent season. 25 goals and 50-60 points for a Hab player can be categorized like a good season.

Interesting. That second and third line are what I'd posted earlier as what I had hoped would be good combinations. Hopefully they do work out!

He's between Johnson and Samsonov.

Those lines are great 'cuz we keep intact the Koivu - Higgins duo, the Johnson-Pleks tandem, the Ribeiro-Kovalev chemistry and the Bonk-Begin dynamic.
Can work out great for the Habs.

Latendresse-Ribs-Kovy might be a little too slow and they are not good on defense. But you cant have everything perfect so its worth a shot. And 3.5 mil player on the third line?

3.5m player on the 3rd makes more sense than a 2.4m player on the 4th doesn't it? Who cares how the money is spread around as long as we win games.

Samsonov would have a line mate making league minimum and we also have 1st liner making under 700k, so I guess they balance each other.

So what ? This is the new NHL my friend. There's no such thing as a defensive third line. Most of the teams rally on three offensive lines now, and with this line up,

Higgins - Koivu - Ryder
Latendresse - Ribeiro - Kovalev
Samsonov - Plekanec - Johnson
Begin - Bonk - Zhogin/Murray/Ferland

we'll have three lines capable of scoring on a regular basis with a very effective checking/defensive 4th line. This line up sounds great !

BTW, how many players can we keep ? 21 or 23 ? With 21, we can keep everyone except Downey.
