It's sort of similar. Except that NYI has, like, a million times more financial flexibility. So, really, not so similar.

This. We have nothing but options and zero restrictions.

Uh, no? Not even remotely. This is exactly why I wanted the Pens to draw the Isles.

It would still be really funny though.

If the Isles beat the Pens...
Bylsma is gone.

We already expect Fleury to be gone.

I still have memories of David Volek....shudder .

I am not really surprised that this series is tied. The Isles played real well in the month of April to earn their spot in the playoffs to begin with. Glad to see that they are making this a good series. I would not consider this to be the biggest upset of all time. the 1995 NJ Devils team sweeping Detroit Red Wings to capture the cup, ranks right up there.

Just said this to my Ranger fan friend.

Maybe getting a little ahead of ourselves, but that would be pretty awesome.

I don't think it would even be the biggest upset post lockout.

If the Isles beat the Pens, massive lulz will ensue.

Arguable the biggest upset in the NHL occurred 10 years ago, the Mighty Ducks sweeping the defending champ Red Wings. Absolutely nobody predicted that, and nobody knew that Giguere would turn into superman.

I was gonna bring up the 1995 SCF but didnt want to look like a homer. I think it is though, only because EVERYONE ELSE WAS SO CONVINCED DETROIT WOULD SWEEP NJ. Which is honestly silly, the Devils were a goal away from winning the East the year before (which also destroys the argument of that cup win somehow not beinv legit..) .

The Duck's run in 2003 and the King's run last year rank as the 2 biggest "upsets" in terms of just how good those teams were while doing it (the run). Different topic tho..

91 North Stars still biggest IMO simply for the amount of upsets that team pulled off

- Took out Presidents Trophy winning Hawks (38 pts better in regular season)
- Took out #2 Blues (1 pt behind Hawks)
- Took out defending champion Oilers

Sorry guys, I cant believe you haven't heard, the Pens solved their problem, MAF out, and Vokoun in. NHL has decided to just advance the Pens to the second round, games 5 and 6 will not be necessary. For real this time.

It's a pretty big if. Could it happen? Sure.

I'm still laughing at all the fans who thought this series would be an easy sweep for the Pens.

It was the Flames who beat the Wings that year and the Sharks and Vancouver. 3 Big upsets in a row.

Only the broadcasters would really be that upset after losing their precious little Penguins.

I think Sharks beating Detroit in 94 is hard to beat when you look at the quality of the teams. SJ seems like one of the worst teams that beat a good team.

Hmm looking at their roster they did have Larionov and Whitney, 2 guys that were no doubt underrated at the time. I still think overall that team did something amazing beating Detroit.

0 out 18 sports panelists chose the Isles in this series. None even gave the isles any remote chance. This is cup or bust for the pens, many fans were already planning the cup parade with aquisitions of Jarome, Murray, Morrow and Jokinen.
Ask David volek what he thinks?
Beating Lemiuex, Jagr, Coffey, Barasso, Mullen, Francis, etc
Not even biggest upset between these two teams

The Islanders over the Penguins in 1993 would still be bigger than this, that 1993 Penguins team was better than their back to back Cup 91 and 92 teams.

Sharks over Blues in 2000 I believe it was is bigger IMOn.
And the 1993 Islanders really weren't very good. This NYI team is more talented and better overall by a good margin.

I'll likely root for the Islanders if they beat us. They are really short though.

Habs against Pens and Caps was a bigger upset imo.

i see people (especially Pens fans) more confident that they can play a tighter style and pull off the needed wins against the Isles, not the ones guaranteeing two straight wins now. quit your bellyaching.

on topic, despite how favored the Pens were in this series, if they lose (which is a big possibility based on their blatant disregard for defensive play), it would be an upset but not even the biggest in this rivalry. let's not forget the Volek OT goal in game 7 of '93 (i keep trying to forget it but YOU DARN ISLANDERS FANS WON'T LET ME FORGET IT WILL YOU ). also, the Islanders came back from 3-0 against... you guessed it. the Pens. in 1975.

I don't think it would be more upsetting than Montreal beating Washington after being down 3-1 in 2010... but it would be the worst thing that could happen to the Pens organisation. And it's just proof that in today's NHL, stacking a team doesn't automatically give you the Cup.

EDIT : I think if Pens lose, Bylsma will be on the hot seat, depending on next season's results, and Fleury will be shopped around the league.

i agree with the bolded to an extent, though i already think Bylsma is on the hot seat and if they lose here, he should (and probably would) be fired.
